Wow that was helpful! Another quick tip: leave a tiny bit of space between the mount and the safety ribbon mount when attaching them to the board. I put them very close to each other and it makes a clicky noise when pushing either of them down.
Hi there, The more modern GoPro models these days are often waterproof. Think the GoPro HERO5 / GoPro HERO4 Session were the first generation of waterproof cameras. As my GoPro in this video is a HERO5 there's no need for a waterproof case! Hope that helps 👍🏼
Does this allow for the go pro to interchangeably be able to face towards you OR forward towards the water? Or do you manually have to install it facing which way you want it to go from the beginning, leaving it permanently stationary until removed?
Hi there, Good question, the black GoPro mounts can be clipped into the white surfboard mount either way. This means you can set your GoPro up to point towards the water or towards the surfer without having to change your white surfboard mount. Hope that helps! 🤙🏼
Great video. Thank you! You only submerged the wetsuit while it was inside-out. So there is no need to flip the wetsuit on its outer side and submerge it on that side as well?
Interesting question but I'd advice against it. A 5mm wetsuit when it's wet will be pretty heavy and asking the zipper to hold that weight up could damage the stitching and overtime possibly stretch the wetsuit out of shape. I'd recommend folding it at the waist and hanging it up with a normal hanger. Glad you found the video useful, thanks for your question! 🤙🏼
@@kanuckster1 No worries! I'd recommend against folding the wetsuit too much when storing for long periods, as that's how deep set creases start to develop. No problem using vacuum bags as I imagine they'll be completely sealed so can store in a shed / garage over winter no problem.
Nice video Rich. Thanks for that. Like the new format. How would you feel the changing robe would be for the more, how do you say, rotund fellow? I’m 5’9 but stockier than your average surfer 😉 Would it be a bit tight around the midriff? I’m starting my surfing journey at the ripe age of 41, first season, but do surf spring and autumn and am looking for a changing robe in addition to the towel robe I already have. Also, stupid question, how wet does the inner layer get when getting out of a wet suit? Wondering if I’ll just end up getting my dry clothes wet when I put them on under it or is there some special technique? Cheers for the videos. Really useful for getting my head round stuff. Great work 👍🏼
Great questions! So my chest measurement is around 40 inches and the measurement for the midriff area of the Beach Basha Pro (in the L/XL size from the video) is around 65 inches. So I had an extra 25 inches of room to move my arms about getting my wetsuit on and off… which felt like a LOT of space. Might be worth measuring yourself to get a better idea of how much space you’d be left with. If you still don’t think you’d have enough room, Dryrobe actually offer a larger XL size than Northcore where the midriff area is around 75 inches. But then of course Dryrobe’s products don’t have the same features as this Northcore Beach Basha Pro. In regards to the inner layer, I suppose it depends on how long you wear it over your wet wetsuit. For the 10-15 minutes I have it on whilst changing out of my wetsuit, I’d say the inner layer gets slightly damp. In my experience that dampness doesn’t really transfer onto the dry clothes either - If anything the dry clothes + body heat from how warm it is are what help dry out the inner layer. Glad you like the new format and thanks for your positive feedback, always great to here the content is helping the surfing community! 🤙🏼
I am washing daughters wetsuit and I have done the spray down to get the sand off but there is still residual sand (like if I squeeze the sleeve...sand sand sand!!) Is it okay if there is some residual sand on the suit?
Yes I’d say it’s almost impossible to get 100% of the sand off after use, even when cleaning and spraying it down. In my experience these fine grains of sand are so small that once the wetsuit is dried the wearer won’t even notice they’re there when putting the wetsuit back on. In short, it’s totally fine for there to be some residue sand after a wash - Hope that helps! 🤙🏼
THANK YOU! I lost one of my gopros in the sea not long ago, definitely properly installing it next time, what made it even worse was it was a brand new hero 9!
Ah man… gutted for you that you lost your GoPro Hero 9, that really sucks! Hoping this video serves your next GoPro a bit better for many more trips into the waves! 🤙🏼🏄🏽♂️
Hi there, Good question, as the GoPro 8 does not include a protective case when purchased from GoPro, you'd have to buy a protective case separately. GoPro do however sell a protective case for the GoPro 8 where the backdoor can be opened and removed just like in this video. Here's a link to one of those protective units if you're interested - amzn.to/3MKEGKV If you go down this route, don't forget your Floaty Backdoor too - amzn.to/3Gh6PXD
This is a fairly common question, so I’ll paste in my reply to another commenter who asked the same thing… “In my opinion these GoPro surfboard mounts are much more likely to fall off a soft top (foam) surfboard - so I wouldn’t recommend it and neither does GoPro. With a hard top surfboard the adhesive properly bonds with the mount whereas this doesn’t really happen with a soft top (foam surfboard). However, if you still want to try it out I’d recommend getting yourself a floaty / floaty back door so that if it does fall off you won’t completely lose it.” Hope that helps 🤙🏼
I’ve not personally used one of these on a snowboard so it’s hard to say. 🤔 One thing I would flag is that when you’re surfing you’ve got the option of attaching a floaty that would save you from losing your GoPro if it falls off - but nothing exists like that for snow. Also a snowboard flexes more than a surfboard, that flex might have a negative effect on the seal of the adhesive mount - so it might not work as well. Sorry I can’t be of more help but I’d progress with caution, happy shredding! 🤙🏼
Awesome, glad you found the video helpful! If you need a steer on surfboard bags I can vouch for Ocean & Earth, mine has saved me a number of board dings and gives a tonne of protection. Here’s a link if you fancied a look - thewaveshack.com/store/surfboard-accessories/surfboard-bags/?filter_brand=ocean-and-earth Enjoy! 🤙🏼
Thanks for the review. I ordered some the other day. Ive surfers ear and so tired of getting water trapped and ear infections. This will open up many more surf sessions. Thanks
Thanks for the feedback and glad the review was useful! These will certainly help reduce the chance of trapped water and/or ear infections, see you amongst the breakers! 🤙🏼
I’d like to put it behind the foot pad facing the front of the board.. don’t think there’s enough room tho. What’s your recommendation for a tail mount?
Great question…first of all I’ve not done this so can’t talk from experience, but I do know how solid the surfboard mount is. So, I’d say if there’s enough room behind the tail pad for the whole mount then it should be fine. My main worry would be the possibility of knocking it off every time you swing your leg over to get on your board. Not sure how long your board is but if it’s a longboard that might not be too big a problem. Try it out, the GoPro set comes with two surfboard mounts so if it doesn’t work you can use the other one for the more conventional placement shown in the video. But whatever you do I’d always recommend using a floaty with your camera as well. Hope that helps 🤙🏼
Great question, in my experience this is the usual sensation I get when I put mine in too. If you think about, these SurfEars are basically blocking your ear canal so water cannot get into them. This is why it will sound / feel similar to when you put your fingers in your ears. The difference with these earplugs is that they do let some noise in whilst you're wearing them (just not as much compared to if you weren't wearing them, if that makes sense). Hope that helps! 🤙🏼
Thank you man, I appreciate the quick application lesson, I'll be using it for my two skim boards, all these years I've done it without any wax, lol, hopefully this will make it easier.
Amazing! I use to do a bit of skimboarding myself and could never stay on it without wax... in short, this will make it approximately one million times easier for sure - enjoy! 🤙🏼
Ah nooooo! 😢 This heating method is the only way to get these things off safely… I’m surprised you managed to get it off without using any heat, the adhesive is so strong!
Hey Javier, you’re not the only one - I also didn’t receive the small white locking plug in my GoPro surfboard mount box either. Not sure why this is such a common occurrence, but I got in touch with GoPro via their website and asked them to send me another one in the post. Didn’t take too long to arrive and GoPro were fairly good about the whole thing. Hope that helps! 🤙🏼
@@TheWaveShack is this supposed to come with the mount or in the GoPro packaging? I’m not seeing it listed in either item box description. Is this required to set it up? Or did they upgrade this mount to not need this piece anymore? I’m wondering why all the videos are showing it comes with the mount (or showing it is needed to install it) but so many didn’t get one and why it’s not listed under either item coming in their respective boxes. I was looking to buy a GoPro and needed one for my SUP so I need this mount for it. I’d hate to have to find out the hard way that a required part is not in the packaging if I do actually need it. I can’t even find this piece as a ‘replacement part’ for purchase so it seems it’s if important to have, you better not lose one because you won’t be able to find another.
Nice! I was thinking about putting one of these one of my boards but I’ve been hesitant because I was unsure of how difficult it would be to remove. I appreciate the vid!
Really easy to remove, just takes a bit of time and elbow grease! Plus you get two GoPro surfboard mounts in their pack. So, if you ever fancied another one back on your board after removing the first one you can do that too. Glad I could help 🤙🏼
@@hasnanajmi6241 It doesn't say anywhere on the GoPro Surfboard Mount box that you can (or can't) re-use the same surfboard mount after you've taken it off. Personally, I wouldn't think the adhesive bond would be as strong a second time around - so I wouldn't recommend re-using them. Hope that helps! 🤙🏼
Good question, in my opinion these GoPro surfboard mounts are much more likely to fall off a soft top surfboard - so I wouldn’t recommend it and neither does GoPro. With a hard top surfboard the adhesive properly bonds with the mount whereas this doesn’t really happen with a soft top. @@TheWaveShack Your video is the 1st video I found on attaching these mounts and before that I thought they were usually pierced through (well, at least on softboard) in the same way a leash is installed on a body board. Will have to do some more research...
@@TheWaveShack BTW, thanks for showing how the tether can slide and loop around the hinge! I just got my Hero 9 and wanted extra protection in case those 2 ears brake off where I could lose the camera. I heard of them braking, as well as seeing a lot of the grips and poles brake too and then bye by bye!!
These aren’t those types of earplugs I’m afraid, these SurfEars 3.0’s are solely built to stop water getting in your ears, and that’s it. No music involved, but who knows - maybe that is the future of surfing earplugs 🤷🏽♂️ Hope that helps 🤙🏼🏄🏽♂️
Working Title great question! SurfEars claim anything below 68°F or 20°C stimulates bone growth (Exostosis / Surfers Ear), but in combination with wind you can be at risk also in higher temperatures. In short, it’s up to you but wearing these SurfEars will certainly help protect you against Exostosis compared to if you didn’t wear them. Hope that helps 🤙🏼
@@TheWaveShack Thank you. so even if I surf in tropic climate, wind can stimulate bone growth. Hope it gets cheaper. It would be waaaay more expensive to have that shipped here.
Ears get worked in cold weather and wind, but the infections come in the tropics and warmer weather when I'm in the water a lot, to surf, play, spearfish... So, while they won't protect you from bone growth in the tropics-- that doesn't happen -- they will keep water out of ears and thereby help against having water caught in already narrowed ear canals. So... if you don't have surfer's ear to begin with and you live somewhere warm, without too much wind, probably not a problem. But if you have abused your ears, get em
Hi Ivo, great question - I've been using these for quite some time now and they're just as impressive in the bigger conditions if not more so! The range of sizes for both the inner ear pieces and the wings result in a really solid fit, so it's very difficult for them to fall out. Hope that helps 🏄🏽♂️
I have 'em and yes they do. Definitely. Sometimes one comes out if u get super thrashed or whacked by the lip. But then you put back in. Easy. There come with 3 different sized wings and plugs, so one size will definitely fit. No brainer, buy em. Great for swimming pool as well. They'll stay in when jumping off a 3m
