Studio? Leaking? You should watch the video again. The point is : this is a bad headphone, bad value for money. Grado 60 or AKG 240 will eat it for breakfast.
@Schpritzmachine unfortunately also a Technics (not this one) SA 180 from the 80s but I am happy with it. I also have some Hitachi receivers, an SR 2000 and an HTA 7000 from 1980-81 and a Rotel RX 203 from 1978. Cheap and cheerful but I am happy with them all. I think you have gone more high end and I am in the budget area but it's fine for me.

thanks for the review but i believe this av* ava and avc were marketed for tv and digital piano.. sure you can use it for music but they were tuned out of the factory for a specific sound, and the vibration dampening ring is unique to their lineup for this.. their AD or reference series is probably much better for music
I am VERY LITTLE agree with you on this idea that the DT 770 would be preferable for music, because I think it is quite the opposite that is true: the open DT990 is, according to my own experience of the 2 headphone models mentioned, much better for music than the DT 770. Note however that I am talking about the headphones DT 990 Pro and not the DT 990 premium. I just can't believe that the classical piano CD in your example could sound like an electric piano (!). Did you use an amplifier capable of giving full output at 600 ohm impedance. Without an amplifier or sound card suitable for 600 ohms, and even 250 ohms, you will get thin, low volume sound. The most recent MacBook Air computers equipped with the revolutionary Apple M2 processors (from 2022) have a headphone output compatible with high impedances. It also depends on what type of music, as you say, you listen to on your headphones, because a lot of bass is only good for really ordinary and primary music (poor harmonically, using ready-made electronic assistance, etc.), rap music for example. On the other hand, for more rich music, harmonically complex, with a lot shades and a writing structuraly very developed, etc., whether it be a quartet by Beethoven or Berg, a sonata by Prokofiev, Boulez, Glass, or jazz from the great period (Oscar Peterson, Coltrane, Brubeck, etc.) the accentuation of the bass is, on the contrary, a sign of an absolute lack of taste, in my opinion. Open headphones have a more natural sound (and not artificially enhanced), more faithful to the instruments, even for the voice. I currently have at home the Beyerdynamic 770 pro (into 80 ohms) and the 990 pro (in 80 ohms also). The music is still very good with the 770, but you can still feel a slight added effect (a bit like surround if i can use this image, even if this is not here the appropriate term). The closed 770 is ideal for watching movies, it offers a perspective that is somewhat reminiscent of the sound of real cinemas rooms (much like a good camera that offers depth of field). The 990 open, him, is better for music with a real natural feel like you'd hear with a real quartet in front of you for example, is superb (and still has plenty of bass, he is not flat).
I did not mention the DT 770 in this review. I did mention the DT 880 - 600 Ohm. I have never listened to the DT 770. The DT 990 PRO? This is the 990 Premium review. Yes, the DT 990 - 600 Ohms needs an amplifier.
Question: HD681B (where the B is for balanced, this has a graphic on the Superlux site which is tempting) or EVO? I need a neutral sounding headphone, not very bassy, but natural and musical, where even the mids (example: female vocals) shine without fatigue. No muddied frequencies, appreciate little details. I listen to genres like new-wave, Bowie, trip-hop, electronic pop, ambient kind of rock, electronic rock et cetera. Thank you!
Haven't listened to the 681B. Stuff like Bowie, new wave, trip-hop etc. sounds great on the 681EVO! No, it's not neutral, it is bassy, not boomy. Great choice for this kinda music.
