I started the Nanny by Lana Ferguson, but put it down and read something else. I do want to go back to it though. I want to check out her other books as well. A Love Beyond the Stars looks cute.
Via Wikipedia: Karen Kay, who prefers to be known as Kay,[1] discovered as an adult that she is of Native American descent, as her great-great-grandmother was a member of the Choctaw tribe. After this discovery she began researching the Native American culture to find more about this lost part of her heritage. At the same time, she was working towards her dream of becoming a writer by working on several contemporary romance manuscripts. After seeing the movie Dances With Wolves, however, Kay decided to switch her focus and write romances that featured the Native American culture.[2] Her first historical romance novel attempt, Lakota Surrender, was purchased in 1994 by Avon Books, who were impressed enough with the work to sign Kay to a three-book contract. The book also received a four-and-a-half star "Exceptional" rating from Romantic Times Magazine.[2]
I read the book after watching Season 3. I had learned from reading the comments how the story proceeded. I just wanted to understand was whether my reaction to Season 3 episode 8 an overreaction. Honestly, I think I prefer Benedict's story in Offer From a Gentleman to When He Was Wicked. I find Julia Quinn drags things on. Her books are too long, and in the case of Francesca and Michael not much was gained by keeping up the correspondence from India. But I did like the story. I thought the Second Epilogue just gave the entire story arc a hard won happily ever after. At its core the theme of second chance at love and the themes around building a family were compelling. It makes the decision the showrunners have decided to take in Season 4 concerning Francesca and Michael Stirling more clear. n her June instagram post the author said she communicated to the showrunner that it was important to preserve the relationship between Francesca and John. In the book John only appears in the first chapter. But now I better understand what she meant. There is no second chance unless you provide insight into the first marriage. On screen you have to show it, not just mention it. But it is also clear from the way the showrunners presented episode 8 to deliberately alter the perception of that relationship and let the audience know that the first relationship is not what we think it is so that they can set up a new narrative with a different focus. As much as I enjoy watching films, I generally tend to find books to be better. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy the book to film adaptation. Rather, the film just seems like a long and protracted commercial or book trailer. Netflix Bridgerton stands out for me because visually it is stunning in a way the book(s) fail to be. I don't consider myself a Julia Quinn/Bridgerton fan. That said, there are things that she does better than the Netflix series. She is a good author in the sense of articulating a cohesive message. The little details she adds in the books about the people attending the balls, the letters, the gossip and the interaction between characters make sense and help you understand the character's motivations. The series especially, the last season, jumps all over the place, Even though they do use dialogue from the book, they engage in time jumps and introduce new plot points that after a while distort the main characters and in so doing significantly change the message of the books. I like When He Was Wicked. I agree with you. To merit such a reputation, the author should have included actual instances of him being wicked instead of just relying on hearsay and innuendo. Adding those scenes would have made Michael Stirling's transformation that much more profound. I do thing the Netflix series did a better job of capturing the dynamic between Francesca and John. But the book is about Michael not John. All the more reason to have Michael Stirling be more explicit about his exploits and maybe have scene where Francesca and John react in private to Michael's stories. I also think it is important to show that Michael's stories do not intrude into their intimate lives. Michael does not share all of the explicit details when talking to Francesca. But she keeps pestering him to describe his exploits. Why? Is she hoping to learn something? The author leaves the door open. This story is much more heartbreaking than the others so far. I am reading Hyacinth's story "It's in His Kiss." Then I will have one more.
@gooddecorum it's not bad or anything. It just lost momentum for me. Loved the idea of a grumpy Viscount in need of a wife and mother for his niece and nephew.
I DNFd Making of a Highlander because her accent was so thick, and it was difficult for me to read. I do want to try picking it up again, to see if I can get through the book. If not, then I’ll probably skip over to book two and see.
They need to bring back the stepbacks. I usually take photos of books at the store, because then I can look it up after I get home to see if it sounds good. Usually when I’m in a book store, I don’t have a lot of time to browse, because my daughter’s hate being in the romance section 😂. So this is why I snap photos and then leave the store. I wouldn’t use gender queer as the term for the Wolf and the Wildflower, because she wasn’t apart of the LGBTQ community. She was straight dressing up as a man, but she was attracted to men so I would say it’s more cross dressing. As we know men dressed as women on stage plays back in the day. So I would say it was more cross dressing than anything else.
Yay you got the Loretta Chase Lord of Scoundrels with the step back. Some sellers don’t realize what they have and you get lucky. That first edition of Love, Come to me is so pretty and you got Give Me Tonight as well 😮. I have the Scottish Bride by Catherine Coulter and I love that step back, it is so cute. I need to get to her books soon. Man of my Dreams step back is beautiful, i own that one too. OMG, I love that print. It is so pretty, I wish I had the room I would buy how many art prints of these step backs.
I am not a fan of all of the side plots, and yes I felt like Penelope and Colin’s romance didn’t get enough screen time. I’m so tired of the Featherington family in general, and someone on Threads thought that the writers probably did the Penelope and Colin storyline on the 3rd season, because then there is less cast they have to have scenes for once the 4th season hits. It made me think about that, and that could be true 🤔. We probably will barely see them in season 4. Honestly if season 4 is Benedict’s story, then I’m skipping it. I wasn’t a fan of him in the 3rd book, also I haven’t liked him at all in the TV series, it’s almost like the writers don’t know what to do with his character. Yes I agree they already showed him being bi-curious during the 1st season, so I don’t understand why they had him questioning his sexuality in the 3rd season. So that was weird to me. Also I will be skipping Francesca’s story if she gets together with Michaela, because now they are gender swapping love interests. If others enjoy that, then that’s fine but I agree with others, what’s the point of them buying the rights to the series if they aren’t going to be as close to the book series as possible? Anyways I think your predictions might be correct. We will see once that season comes.
I was sucked in by part 1 and was expecting the friends to lovers to be super romantic and sexy and Colin and Pen got robbed of their relationship moments. They deserved so many more sweet and intimate moments that aren't even necessarily sex scenes. They spent so much time at odds and only the last 5 minutes did they get some happiness. I liked their first sex scene but I wanted more, where was my sexy montage. They broke the leg of the sette that they were banging on, I was imagining they split that thing in half and a leg just broke lol. The featherington family development was almost more "romantic" than Polin's story.
Yeah it didn’t make sense that they took out the whole prologue of Secrets to a Summer Night, because it introduced those characters and how they knew each other. Personally I didn’t have any issues with the prologue or the kiss
I have the the Diamond of the Sea body spray and lotion that is the Bridgerton one from Bath and Body Works, the scent is definitely musky and strong, but I do smell jasmine in the spray as well. It’s not my favorite of Bath and Body Works, but it’s not terrible either. I have it in my summer rotation scents right now
You have every right to say if you thought the writing was poor in quality, some authors aren’t great at their writing and others are better. Are we supposed to infantilize and pacify these authors? I’m not in author spaces and telling them to their face that I think their writing sucks. So the same thing goes for authors in readers spaces. My reviews are for other readers and not the authors. Dang let that person come onto my video and tell that to me, it’ll be fun for me to respond 😂. Good luck with the Ravenal series, I hope you like them.
I also loved this book, the only issue I have with it is the cover, it doesnt represent the MCs but well, besides that, it's a really fun and cute story ❤
Maple Hills is a fictional city, but there is a North Hills in California though. Even though we do have sunshine most of the year here, my uncle used to play goalie for a hockey team. He would play on what they call “beer leagues”, and sometimes he even played with celebrities (he actually played on teams that had Jerry Bruckheimer, Justin Bieber, David Boreanaz, Jensen Ackles, Cuba Gooding Jr.). He has met a good number of male celebrities because of hockey. I met some as well, because I would go to a place called Toyota Center, that is a building where the LA Kings do their hockey practice at and where the LA Lakers practice at (I didn’t see any basketball practices, because they have it blocked off from viewing). One year Harry Styles was there and someone called it in, and a crap ton of young girls came flocking in the building looking for Harry Styles 😂. So yeah we are huge hockey fans here. We have several indoor hockey buildings, also roller hockey as well.
