As a kiwi it’s great to see our jets being used constructively. I used to love seeing these shoot through the skies in in New Zealand. A4 is such a cool looking jet.
They should have hired the pilots of those ex-RNZAF Skyhawks too... They would probably have defeated the up and coming US jet fighter pilots everytime until they get good I suppose... But kiwi pilots of those aircraft were well regarded by our allies and partners...
If the RNZAF ever aquire a new fleets of jets they should pay respect to Helen Clark by conducting a low and aggressive show of force fly pass over her house in tge earlier morning hours 😊
@Steven Otene It was political and had nothing to do with cost. When Helen was in opposition, she said she'd cancel the deal if she came to power, she came to power and kept her word. The F16's were the deal of the century, as they had been built for Pakistan and included the latest avionics and weapon systems, but then the sale was blocked due to Pakistan carrying out a couple of nuclear tests, so a new customer was sort. The deal was to lease 28 new aircraft for NZ$124.8 million for a 10 year period with the right to purchase them at anytime, and they came with a $238 million "startup" package, which included parts and training. The true operational cost was estimated to be around $1 billion over their lifetime....this is peanuts when you look at current government's spending.
