I have been looking around for years to see if there is any unedited recording of this obviously phenomenal show anywhere. Purchasable through any sort of official channels, bootlegged, whatever. If anyone knows of such a thing please let me know.
Boy, great memories... saw this tour, was blown away. As others have commented, the musicianship is as good as you will ever hear. Poignant, also to think that Jaco Pastorius was killed some few years after the tour, I think over drugs. I feel blessed to have seen the show.
The YT alg sure got it right with this recommendation. Holy Crap! Branford is so on it's ridiculous. Tain is channeling his inner Elvin--you can see it on his face. All I can say is Wow.
It's so nice to realize ,that the puplic (that time it was usual on jazz concerts) listens strong to the music , they "feel" parallel ,what the music and (!) text says ,so they are 100 % involved in it . Not like today, where almost all the musical stuff on a concert must be just fast and loud to be mentioned and reacted positively . Anything else would be reacted as "boring"......very sad, where the today public has been changed . And sometimes musicians are responsible for that as well (I mean the way,how many of them play today) ,not only the media and the people in the public....this project is timeless ,musically absolutely on top in jazz history . A real milestone of the chamber music in jazz .
Anyone who is a singer will tell you how difficult it is to sing this. The intervals are just incredible. Joni had complete control over her voice. An absolutely stunning performance! Of course the band is heavenly.
Incredible footage and recording. So much life in this music...The crowd sounds amazing too; whoever did the mixing really captured something great here.
Poor Lester Young , and all those Jazz masters back then in the USA. I listened to this album for so many years and had no visual. The lyrics of 'Mingus' are personal to me. Joni is a poet❤
Joni Mitchell. A unique musical talent. Fantastic voice (despite the fags), poet, musician, philosopher, and painter. No-one comes close to her in the female firmament of music.
Can’t believe that I can actually write this - but I was there. I was in Bimhuis Amsterdam that night, when this amazing performance was recorded. What a privilege for a twenty year old, and a sax student at the time. The best live show I have ever witnessed, without a doubt.
