Magic the Gathering, Commander, pack breaks, card / set reviews, deck upgrades, old man rants, ADHD ramblings about jeeps, RC cars, painting minis, fishing, music, or video games….
Not sure on that, but I think 1 threat is too many. I doubt it was 500, because it takes a pretty dramatic / out of touch type of person to correlate banning a card with threats of life and well being. I do hope the folks that went to those dark recesses of their mind, take a moment to reflect, and seek some counseling. Nonetheless, Thank you for the comment, and I hope you have a great day!
Not my intentions, according to their own article, wizards of the coast did take over the commander format, link to the article provided in the description.
@@titanv3853 regarding proxies, I could provide you the wizards of the coast policy on that, but they have always allowed for play testing, or if a card gets damaged in an event, a judge is authorized to make you a proxy, etc. My speculation on if they take a more firm stance on WPN / Premium stores turning a blind eye on allowing the use of them in a tournament event is purely that, speculation.
Konami is kind of the perfect example as they’ve got similar interests in their game. Konami doesn’t allow proxies at all and makes it against their rules for stores to run unsanctioned events if they’ve OTS status. OTS status makes it to where they cannot get promos or products from them. I feel like something similar will happen which will make it to where you won’t be able to enter competitive EDH unless you have the actual cards. Now I feel like this could be a good thing seeing that their tiered system might allow people to submit deck lists that allows people to play competitively at like power 8/7 or just with precons for prize support. I feel like this will be a net negative overall though as WoTC just got handed total control to their biggest money generator.
That's interesting about the Konami games, thank you for sharing that. I am curious to see where it goes. As far as the category of individual cards. It will be interesting to see how many of the "this deck is only a 4 because of this one card" situations, will just drop the one card when attending events. Will future events separate the random pods by category of the players decks? It would avoid the pub stomp of a full tilt high power list (running only category 1 and 2 cards) from existing, so the pub stomp shouldn't take place as often. I am sure cards will be miscategorized, and some cards will jump in category as newly released cards synergize too well. Also I am interested to see what will be unbanned / future new bans. I am going to throw a guess out into the world that jeweled lotus and crypt will eventually be released back out into the wild at category 5 or something. /shrug
@@BionMTG the way I see it is that this will mostly be for competitive players if they decide to do so. So like creating a tiered list basically will define your deck and effectively will be the banlist without having explicit bans at all. I don’t like the looks of it but the community has already shown how toxic they can be so now the adults have to step in to supervise which now that adult supervising now has the ability to say “give me more money if you want more of these cards.” Before they were hesitant to do so because of their cards getting hit. Now commander’s philosophy will slowly warp into follow the money rather than follow what’s fun. I think it’ll be overall a negative but there might be some positives that come out of it.
Love this! "Early" magic (not only '93/'94 but let's say...before 2000? 1999?) was really something else! Beautiful artwork, mindset, rules (what's written on the card, is what the card does... wahhabism applied to a cardgame! lol), the lore, the "flavor" text etc... On a side note, I've always thought that all the "broken" old-school cards are that way ("broken"!) more because there was a mismatch between what the "designers" wanted the game to be and how the cards were effectively "exploited" in competitive tournaments and by players. I mean, only competitive playing can show how crucial is having card advantage (drawing like crazy!).... Also one thing is to use "moxes" to cast earlier a Serra Angel or a Sengir Vampire, another is using them to "comboing out" an opponent on the first/second turn....
Thank you so much for the comment! I couldn’t agree more about old school. It’s really one of the biggest reasons I only collected my set through Urza block. I also think mercadian masques is a great set, but I had to draw a line somewhere because initially I was collecting all the new sets as they came out, but it was virtually impossible to keep pace with how fast sets are released now. I plan on continuing the set reviews and hope the channel keeps growing because I am having a blast making these things, and just talking about a game that I love!
@@BionMTG Understandable! Thank you for showing your collection and for all the infos you shared! Great video....on my way to watch the Arabian Nights one, too! I'm really interested in all the blocks before Mirrodin tbh....and especially those that came out in the '90s!
I do wish that I had a bit more time to get this video out to make more unique lists, but I wanted to catch it the next morning. Have you built a list for any of them? I would love to see the super obscure cards you have lined up for the list.
Fucking fantastic. I know Mark Rosewater worked on this, and he's been answering superhero questions on Tumblr for years, but these FEEL like the characters, come to life.
the reasoning they give for the ban is kinda stupid. if its really about the format health then sol ring has to go too but the RC is too scared since wotc puts them in every single precon this whole thing feels like a forced rule 0
agreed, the entire banned list is like a forced rule zero, but I know a fair amount of people that just play what they want. My niece plays big momma Emrakul as her commander. No one really has issues with it, but if you go to shops / events and play with strangers, then some folks do have an issue. Overall, I think the community is really split on this, and I hope it didn't hit you too hard personally. I am excited to get to brewing for the new cEDH format that will come from this, but I enjoy brewing and deck building, kind of more than actually playing.
The sky didn't fall yesterday. Magic players across the global lost collection value (myself included), and WOTC lost way more in reprint equity... All of this being said, commander still has a myriad of broken combos within...
Hey there, thanks for watching! Regarding the cards in questions vs what pods they appear in. Most groups in our area, Spokane WA, differentiate cards of this power level, similar to mox diamond, Thoracle, two card win conditions as competitive and they are omitted from casual game play. They are really what marks a casual deck from competitive in our area.
Cool video. Love antiquities. Just bought a full set plus enough extra cards to make a set cube to play with friends. I love the storyline and the cards and art is so neat. Cant get enough of this set.
Much unlike Dale Carnegie's "How to win friends and influence people", I prefer "how to lose friends and annoy people"... Not Truly, but it is a very fun deck!
Seems like only yesterday (2019) that Eldraine came out, until to notice it was 38 product releases ago... That being said, I completely agree that Kenny is a beast!
I noticed post upload that the video kinda moves, like a shake. I hope it wasn't too distracting, and I'm still unsure what caused it, but thank you for the comment good sir!
TCGPlayer app. It usually works well. In my most recent, it had a bit of an issue, but it had an update, and worked great after closing it, and opening it right back up. The trick with the app, is to ensure you set the cards on a piece of paper. It helps define the cards more clearly for the camera.
@@BionMTG RU-vid algorithm gives me TONS of startup channels doing pack openings and many are poor, but your system is aesthetically pleasing and scanning the cards for value is a cool little addition
