I was in Aco 3/504 from '96-'99. I remember Petraeus always had us carrying our weapons with the Devil Weapon Grip haha. I actually didn't like that unit much, all the training we did was mostly the trench line live fire range, whatever that range was. It was like we were getting ready to fight in WW1. I've also been in 3/505 and 1/325 and they were both better units. I got lucky and PCS'd for drill sergeant duty. I signed out of the unit the day they flew to Kosovo. At the time I was pissed because I knew they would probably get CIB's and I would have got a star on mine (finally got it in '03), but a few weeks later they were in the news when SSG Ronghi raped and killed that little girl and it came out that everyone was getting drunk and roughing up civilians. The entire chain of command up to BN got axed. Ronghi was in my platoon, we were both squad leaders. Man I got lucky.

In 1960, the predecessor of this group was the “18th Airborne Corps Sport Parachute Club”. Practically the first thing I did, after Basic Airborne School, was join that club on Smoke Bomb Hill. Bought my first chute; an Airforce chute with no static line capability and with a “double L” gore cutout for semi control! I barely recognize the equipment they use today!
I wonder if they really do have a arm interval between jumpers. I went through in April. Of 80. They said just get the guy from the back and he pushed everybody Out. Sometimes it was hard just to stay up. But I did it. 35 times in 3 years. I feel pretty good about myself. Mostly because of the good people are served with. 82nd Signal Battalion. Some grants used to Call us como pukes. Cuz we had the tents and generators. You can talk bad about us, but you can't talk without us. Airborne all the way.
Out of curiosity how old is this series of the 87nd? Does anyone know when it was first aired? In the video, it said that the last time the 82nd went on a mission was 1994. Also doesn't Pope/Bragg have the C 5's now as well? I'm nosey as I live right outside of Ft. Bragg. I love seeing our helicopters and jets/planes flying. The night training is LOUD and well, I got used to it. No problem guys and gals. I support our troops in any way I can. Even with an awesome program called Dogs on Deployment, it helps the soldiers to have someone to take care of their dogs, while they are away. One less thing they have to worry about.

@@nmelkhunter1 The Airforce CCTs wear red berets. The Army Paratroopers, those that serve in Airborne status, wear Maroon Berets. Snake Eaters wear Greenie Beanies.
@@markcollins919 I’m aware of all of this. Rangers regiments wear tan berets and the standard issue is black which was the Ranger beret. The point is she did a great job with this story and handled herself with class.
1SG Derricks in that video haha. He was my 1SG in Basic Training, then later he was 1SG in Dco 3/504 when I was in Bco 3/504. He used to have a scroggin wagon....a van with a bed in the back or something. Crazy stuff. You guys were living quite a bit differently from us in Bco! At least in my platoon..... You should get these videos posted with better quality. STRIKE HOLD!
