loved your video and the description of your writing process. I ordered your book from Amazon yesterday and yes I talk to my dog, my cat and plants and trees. looking forward to a good read!
What an informative summary of your writing process, Bill. As a native New Yorker from Syracuse, I will enjoy your book set in the Adirondacks. Preordered it today from Amazon. I was talking to my cat just now about the book; we haven’t mastered communication between us about literature, but we are on the same wavelength when food is the topic. Best wishes to you from Colorado.
Very interesting! Really great to hear your process. The only problem for me was that the volume was low, maybe my device, but it was hard to hear it all.
FINALLY!!! A truly fantastic authentic story of thanks and survival told from a Native perspective- no less a member of the Wampanoag tribe. It doesn't make it too grisly for children but also doesn't gloss over the hard truths. I am so excited to share with my Indian Education students here in Oklahoma, as well as sharing with teachers. Time to turn the false narrative around, in a most BEAUTIFUL way. Wado from a thankful Cherokee citizen!
It’s an outstanding book…. I read version One and remain captivated.. can’t wait to read version Two. The characters jump out from the pages.. A mighty, mighty read. ❤️
I can relate to that first moments living in the country and getting comfort from my grandmother's quilts. To this day, the comfort of a heavy quilt soothes me. I'm looking forward to reading about your journey and stories surrounded by the comfort of quilts. Karol Davidson
It’s such a great story to hear the voices of voiceless women that have given so much of themselves and their spirits. This is a tradition that has been long forgotten of passing on wisdom and knowledge to the next generation. Keep on writing and sharing Phyllis.
Phyllis’ memoir Quilt of Souls is surely to become a classic for generations to come. Her gift of storytelling and writing has taken many of us back to what felt like a safer and simpler time where grandmothers, especially those in the rural south, were the rocks, comforters, teachers and protectors - that safe place to lay our heads. Phyllis is such a prolific writer that you will feel like you’re living her life and experiences in Alabama right along with her. I applaud Phyllis for a job well done, and for telling the story of her life experiences which connect with the lives of so many more of us.
So many stories of the great migration remain untold. Phyllis’ story is one that reflects so many others. An excellent story told by an excellent storyteller. I’m so grateful to Phyllis Biffle Elmore and Quilt of Souls for telling our story and relaying our history. ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I can't wait to read your book. I enjoyed listening to you and getting to know how the book came to be. Listening to you, reminds me of the stories my mom (born in 1923 in a rural Missouri town, even though she was white, her interactions with others gave us a deeper understanding of the world around us and we are better people because of that). I believe your mom's stories need to be heard, that is what is truly missing in the world today, first hand stories from real people. Your story telling was heartfelt, I appreciate your insight and sharing.
OMG, I’m in tears. For years as a middle school teacher and then elementary, I told math metaphor parables and story with mathy characters that students could personally identify and engage beyond a surface acquaintanceship understanding with the math and themselves. I’ve always loved Charlesbridge Press. So, it was when I retire, I need to lock the stories down in a series , but how do I pitch j/ya math adventures in what Jane Yolen referred to as concept picture books.
I just picked up Bracelets for Bina’s Brothers. I like the fact that it has math in it, but is also about Raksha Bandhan. Thread of Love is the only other book I have about that celebration. I need more! Excited to grow my classroom library. Thanks for making these books. 😄👍🏾
This is awesome! Love your energy, Rajani! Now, I want to run out and buy some beautiful boxed sets because my own bookshelf is looking very sad, especially since I've transitioned to audiobooks in the last 7 years or so.
