Welcome to Twelve Acres! My husband and I and our four boys are working to become more self-sufficient on our little homestead, as well as renovate our 1930s farmhouse. We currently have chickens, ducks, quail, goats, sheep, rabbits, pigs, one cow, and a few horses on our farm. On Christmas Eve 2017 we experienced a housefire, so much of the work we have had to do in the last couple of years has revolved around those extensive repairs. We are located in a wonderful farming community in the Northwest Arkansas area, growing zone 7a.
Since I live close in to Tulsa I always go to this show. This is the best of the best. Horses, riders, handlers, & drivers in the USA. I love this show years ago I had qualified to go. But… I am a poor girl & just could not afford it. Just winning the Regionals was a fantastic title for my little mare. Congrats to all the winners & to all those who got to show That would be a dream come true for my horses & mysel.
This video made me happy. Valerie you are so beautiful when you smile like you did at the end of this video. I have never seen you smile like that. Watching it gave me some peace that I have not had for awhile. This video gave me hope.
What if I couldn't get the humidity adjusted for the first 4 days? It was sitting around 55-60% for that amount of time. The humidity outside of my house was almost 100%.I just removed all of the water that I could get to with a pipette, and it's finally down to 45%. Is it too late for them? Or should they still do fairly well?
@@TwelveAcresthank you very much. My last hatch didn't go so well. I only had 5 out of 22 hatch. 12 weren't fertilized when I candled, 1 wasn't developing by day 18, 2 got stuck and died, and the other 2 never started pipping by day 24 (one had a small air cell, the other was too large). So hopefully I get better rates this time.
I use vinegar to clean the hard water buildup. I’ve got 2 nurture right but even being careful my egg turner has stopped working again. I didn’t see the part in the manual about plugging it in after cleaning. I’ll try that next time.
Do you know how low you can allow the humidity to go without adding water. I’ve just tested my humidity and was 15% so I added about a teaspoon of water and it increased the humidity to around 29% humidity. Thought it might be risky to leave it at 15%. What’s your experience please?
@@deborahmartin9672 well in my experience, because we live in such a high relative humidity area, my humidity never goes that low, even when the incubator is bone dry, which is how I run it throughout most of the hatching process. I'm sorry I can't help you out more.
Its so much more satisfying knowing that you have farm raised meat in your freezer and you know exactly want you put into them than going to a the store and buying one
Howdy! I’m interester in building a deer feeder loke yours. I’m curious to know how your feeder worked out. Would you reccomend any alterations ro your design? Thanks y’all!
@@peterb8383 I think it works fine, we just don't have very many deer in our area, far too much Farmland around us. Anytime we drive down the road where there are Woods we always see dear, but rarely ever see them on our property.
I wouldn't be surprised to know you've had exploding eggs since you do not candle? If not you might consider candeling in the future, if one explodes you'll contaminate the entire nest. Candle and remove the eggs that aren't growing.
Hello from Denmark. I have been there, in 2005. I felt 10 years younger after the operation. After 14 days I started a new job as construction manager and I recovered quickly. I built our new house in my spare time. It was like getting a new life. In 2019 I had heart fibrillation, which I received treatment for and haven't had since. I urged the doctors to send me for a scan of my coronary arteries which was done in February 2020. There they found a small narrowing of a coronary artery and did a balloon dilation and a stent. My heart is worn. After my treatments, COVID-19 broke out strongly and I was dismissed from my job as a bricklayer. I retired in 2020 when the sickness benefits expired. I feel good and can do pretty much anything, just not heavy lifting. Just writing this to share my experiences with coronary artery bypass grafting and heart failure. Many in my family were very startled and afraid of my coronary artery surgery. I have lived a pretty normal life with physical work for almost 20 years now, so You look forward to having a healthy man again in a little while. He probably won't vacuum for the next several years due to his health, but look forward to having a healthy young husbond and father back. With all my heart, good recovery and good health to you all.
Hello from Denmark. I bought an All American canner 921 on eBay, like yours. Don't know the age, but it looks like yours, just with a slightly darker patina. Received it a week ago and was anxious to see if it worked as it should. I cleaned the safety control valve/petcock, the overpressure valve and the pressure gauge. Put three gallons of water in and heated up to 10 psi, several times, then with some glasses of water in, a few times, then a much needed cleaning. It has not only been used for canning, with clear dried residues from overcooking, but it got nicely cleaned. On Sunday, I pressure cooked a few jars with beef, chickenbreast, onions and carrots. Today some glasses of dryid beans. I have noticed that when the heat is turned off, it starts sucking air in through the petcock for several hours even after the pressure shows zero. It could be that the pressure gauge shows too little. After three hours I tried to lift the valve a little and the suction lasted a second. I'm super impressed with how easy it is to use and maintains even pressure. I have ordered a weight safety control valve because I thought it was easier to pressure canne with. I've almost regretted that now that I'm learning how exactly the petcock works. Have you experienced with yours that it can suck in air for a long time after the heat has been turned off
@@perkirkegaardlemming720 I have not noticed that but perhaps I just haven't looked closely. Did everything you processed seal nicely? I'm so glad you found a good old canner! I love mine and hope you love yours as well!
@@TwelveAcres Yes, Veck glasses seal nicely. I bought a “gold canner”. Was looking for a pressure canner. Cant buy them in Denmark. Saw on RU-vid an fall in love vith All American canner because it is made off cast aluminium and no seal to replace. Thank You for thr answer
@@rebekahstahl1018 Frankly, our road is probably too quiet. At most I can usually sell 2 dozen eggs each weekend. Occasionally a bouquet of flowers. If you have a decent amount of traffic I'd say go for it!!
@TwelveAcres ok thanks. I started a hundred plant starts this year and the venue were I planed to sell them got rained out so I'm going to build a stand.
Shouldn't people first preheat the incubator first, before putting the eggs in the incubator, so they can get an idea about what the humidity is, in order to make adjustments...and then put the eggs in ?
Yes you could do that, but if you're doing a dry hatch method then you're not going to be adding water to it anyway. So your humidity in the incubator is going to be based off of your relative humidity that is in your home or space that you have the incubator in. If I have freshly washed the incubator, then I will definitely run it for a few hours just to get it totally dried out before I actually set the eggs in.
@@TwelveAcres Okay...I never tried a dry hatch before. I ordered a Sailnovo incubator because my old one wasn't keeping the humidity in like it is suppose to. I'm thinking about trying a dry hatch. Wado (thank you) !
