200k mile cambelt change complete. This is the second time I did this cambelt on my 07 GTi and I found this video much better than the scraps of information I could get 5 years ago. Thanks! What I will say is mistakes of the past did come back to haunt me. I over torqued my top idler and the thread fell out. I also used a defective bolt with a poor thread. So this year was spent reading furious internet debate about timesert Vs keensert Vs helicoil. I opted for helicoil as access was limited and I wanted to remove as little metal as possible for the new insert. Fingers crossed it holds for this application.
After you measured the front string line and had it even from left to right, you then screwed that by moving the rear line . You should have rechecked the front and you would have seen a difference.
2017 E300 suffered #1 piston failure at about 110K miles, always well maintained and fed on Costco premium fuel. No help from Mercedes corporate. Had block replaced by my local mechanic. Still waiting to see if a class action suit comes forth. MB should have a recall on this engine. Also as everyone else, I have had numerous problems, but I was lucky enough to have them serviced through an extended warranty that I had purchased thru MB. Latest is a P0299 code...MB recommends replacing the entire turbo assembly...turns out the waste-gate vacuum actuator was bad, found one on Amazon, fixed problem. $40 dollars vs $4000.
Excellent video. Thank you for posting. It looks straightforward enough apart from the oil temperature and the car needing to be level so front ramps or jacking front up will not work, and unfortunately, i dont have access to a hydraulic ramp... I guess ill have to take it to Volvo for this job $$$$ 😬
I have a Mk1 Skoda Octavia VRS, which is essentially a MkIV Golf GTI in a pretty dress, and i need to do the cambelt on its 1.8t. Super clear video! Thanks!
Used this video yesterday and today with the parts linked to complete on my 2016 F80 under jack stands. I appreciate everyone at FCP Euro. Good looking out for the BMW community.
What is the line on the back you had to remove to get the manifold out? I cant find it in any diagrams. The one with the T30 hold-down on the valve cover.
I have a 2019 E300. Garbage! 57k miles, and the intake adjuster broke. A $7,300 repair. The service advisor said it's a Nissan motor. He said it's not worth keeping but with a trade-in value of $20k that's negative $11.5k from what i owe. That's why you never buy a Mercedes.
11:30, What exactly is that part's function vs the crankcase breather that you changed on the back passenger side? I have experience a lot of oil loss for some time now, even when changing the breather on the back passenger side (that old part had seen better days!), but I am still losing a lot of oil with no visible leak. Should I change the part at 11:30 too? I have seen pictures of the inside of that part and it doesn't look anything advanced, it's just plastic on the inside. How can it fail?
Excellent tutorial!! I love how you explain everything in a clear and simple to understand way. Also mentioning what tools to use and the torque settings makes this video top notch!!
Wow this is really a great video!! I discovered by accident and it covers all 3 of my issues: I have to clean the throttle body due to a probable air leak, remove the alternator pulley since it is making a squeeking sound, and i have to replace both belts and tensioners (since it should be done when removing alternator). This video really covers all of that! :)
Greetings, I have a W212 e180 1.6 2015 274 engine vehicle, the tachometer is constant at idle, but there is shaking when you give gas at constant speed, the authorized service changed the spark plug, the problem continues, there is no fault code other than thermostat failure, authorized service, injector, tank fuel. pump, high pressure pump, it says let's change the coil, but this change requires a lot of money, first of all, where do you think I should look for this shaking failure, shaking does not always happen, it does it for 10 minutes in 1 hour of use, in total, the tachometer is hovering between 1500 and 2500 rpm, sports You don't feel much shaking during use, regards.
I am doing this job right now, I will probably drop the transfer case first to have enough space to work into the shifter. Also, my transfer case bushing need to be replace, it will be easier to change the piece on my press
