not sure if i ask you this before: A few simple IaaS question: 1. How to upgrade an Azure Windows 11 21H2 Gen2 VM to 24H2 ? 2. How to upgrade an Azure Windows 11 Enterprise Multi-Session 21H2 Gen2 VM to 24H2 ? ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ I know it's a hard question, please ask all Microsoft Azure MVP you can reach !!!!! Please & Thanks.
I worked with Azure RemoteApp ten years ago and I thought that they discontinued it around 2016? Or perhaps I am confusing it with another product. We used it to deploy our app so that end users could start up the Windows desktop app without the need to install it on their machines. You could even group apps together that interact with each other, if I remember correctly.
Are you excited for this feature? Interested to hear your feedback! You can view the original documentation here - learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/onedrive-remoteapp
@@ImMarkyB I just checked our 5.3.1 install, and I can see them under Global Images. Can you double-check under Global Images? nmmhelp.getnerdio.com/hc/en-us/articles/29488401646093-Enable-CIS-Hardened-Images
@@virtualmanc Found the switch I needed, for anyone else looking to enable CIS hardened images: At the MSP level, navigate to Settings > Integrations. In the Center for Internet Security tile, select Disabled.
Neil please make some video on license requirements for Nerdio Manager for Ent vs MSP. I know license cost differ on quantities and other factors but you can mention the general quote.
Storing access keys as plain text in scripts is bad practice and a security vulnerability. A better approach would be to store the keys in a key vault and retrieve them during runtime
Hi Aidan, thanks for the comments! Yes, that is very true and is exactly how I normally do it :) In Nerdio we have these things called Secure Variables and they sold sensitive data like that in the Key Vault and then let you retrieve it using a secure variable :)
I actualy have a video which touches upon that here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vqFTHgsyoxg.html But that's a really good video topic for the future!
Hey Neil thanks for sharing that. You didn't configure any NTFS permissions, right? So, if a user knows where the profiles are saved, he could open other profiles or not?
@@virtualmancHi Neil! Is it possible to enable this workaround even without using Nerdio? I mean, just enable on the session host the settings via powershell? thanks!
According to this KB article this should be fixed if you used the latest version of teams. There is also a few registry keys to suggest here also - learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/new-teams-vdi-requirements-deploy
Hi Neil, great video! How do you go about using a custom URL? if I have already deployed Nerdio with the default URL does it need to be redeployed if wishing to update to custom? Thanks!
Hi Alex, thanks for the great feedback! You do not need to re-deploy, we have instructions on how to use a custom URL here - nmehelp.getnerdio.com/hc/en-us/articles/26124345450509-How-to-Customize-the-Nerdio-Manager-URL
I really like the new Windows App interface-it's well-designed and very appealing! However, in our large environment using only Remote Apps, we've noticed that launching them in the Remote Desktop Client is much faster and more responsive than in the new Windows App. Has anyone else experienced this?
Excellent Video, Please create video with the configuration of FSlogix and its storage. Also, please suggest if we can use trial of Nerdio with our AVD environment. If not how much it cost you for one session host?
Thanks for the feedback! You can use it for a single session host but for the Enterprise version there is a minimum $1000 per month commit, although we also have a msp version. Please visit getnerdio.com for more info 😀
Hi Neil, if I want to deploy MS Teams v2 on Nerdio do I need to do the guide from Microsoft? or should I proceed with your steps in 22:32? May I know where can I download the windows scripts on 22:48? TIA.
You know, this reminds me of the official RDP app that Microsoft published for macOS years ago. Very clean and configured similarly. I always thought it was a little goofy that macOS got a better, cleaner RDP client than Windows for the longest time.
@@virtualmanc If it's Windows, there's spyware. Try this - run Win10 in a Linux VM with a data cap set so it claims it can't connect, then watch it do so anyway via a backdoor. I'm sure Win11 is the same. If you really want to help people, change your channel focus to Linux.
Hello! We woul need to switch the authentication for the storage account keys to use Storage Account keys - you can see how to do this here - nmehelp.getnerdio.com/hc/en-us/articles/26124360018445-How-to-Use-Azure-Files-with-Entra-ID-Joined-Method-for-AVD
Ran into an issue where the resulting session hosts would have Microsoft Teams (New) only accessible from the start menu and it was greyed out. When trying to launch it you'd get "There’s a problem with Microsoft Teams. Reinstall the application from its original install location or contact your administrator." Turns out resetting the Windows Store cache fixed this by running "wsreset.exe" in powershell/cmd. Uninstalled Teams, reset cache, and reinstalled on the desktop image. Redeploying now to see if the issue persists on new hosts, but worst case scenario I'll have a start-up script to clear the windows store cache. If you are able to install New Teams on your desktop image, but have issues on the resulting session hosts, try installing the New Teams directly on the session host using the same teamsbootstrapper.exe method and it should give you an error code to troubleshoot. Also worth noting Roaming Identities is not supported on the New Teams, not a common setting, but we use it "nmw.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/13206286676375-FSLogix-Identity-Roaming-for-Credentials-and-Tokens"
Nice content Neil ! Thanks for the video; Quick question though On watermarking configuration is it applicable for W365 aka CPC , as usage of AMA or log analytics agent is not feasible over CPC yet
Hi Neil, First of all, loving the videos, really helpful. Quick question on the hibernation state. I see you was running a Windows 11 Multi-Session, I can understand how this would work in a single session scenario, but how would this work if you had 2, 3 or 4 users all logged into the Multi-Session VM? Lets say all 3 users disconnected, would it be at the point the last user disconnects that the machine would go into a hibernated state? I assume it would have to be : ) When 1 user reconnects, I assume the VM would then come back out of the hibernated state, but if there was 3 users disconnected when the VM went into a hibernated state, would all three users worth of memory have to be reloaded, impacting the wait time for the user who was reconnecting, or would they just need to wait for their info to be reloaded into RAM before the session was resumed? Thanks, John
Hibernation mode is built for single-session environments only, it will not function well in multi-user environments because of what you have mentioned.
Any idea why I don't see this "Delete FSLogix profiles" option in our NMM? We even made sure to update to latest NMM, 4.4.2. Only see "File handles, Copy UNC path, and Unlink".
Not sure I don't deal with NMM that much, I would suggest following the steps here nmmhelp.getnerdio.com/hc/en-us/articles/26125632741005-FSLogix-Settings-and-Configuration#:~:text=Remove%20an%20Existing%20FSLogix%20Profile,%2C%20navigate%20to%20Settings%20%3E%20Integrations. If that still is not working, I would suggest logging a support ticket
Hi, when you deploy multisession hosts and use winget, do you use winget to update your golden image, or do you deploy the apps with winget after the session hosts are created and do you deploy the apps with intune + winget or how do you deploy the apps with winget? Thanks
You can do either! Winget can deploy apps to your images or session hosts. Because Winget is so fast at deploying apps though, I definetly see more customers deploying it to the session hosts instead of the image more and more.
This was useful but can you elaborate when it is better to use ‘Breadth’ v ‘Depth’ for AVD deployments? Also with multisession VMs how do you decide between more smaller sized VMs for fewer sessions against larger VMs with more sessions per VM?
