Jimmy is selling this one and keeping the Lancair from the museum. He said he was selling this one because the museum one was nicer. What issues does this airplane have that he didn’t like? Also I watched him drill a hole in the ailerons and water leaked out. What should I be worried about regarding that?

They now have a small hole to drain water on the underside inboard corner. The plane is now hangar kept but have not seen the issue reoccur.

In 1965 when I was taking lessons at Westminster Airport (now Carroll County Regional Airport) there was Boeing YL-15 Scout in non-flyable condition parked behind a hanger undergoing sporadic attempts at repair. It was a very interesting aircraft indeed; the rear-faceable second seat and plexiglas clamshells is what particularly stayed in my memory all these years.

@@AirSpace.Auction Correct, I doubt they ever made that airframe flyable again. It is, however, a very fond memory, and I had never known exactly what aircraft type it was until your video was posted this week. Personnel at Westminster Airport thought it was a discarded prototype from the nearby (Hagerstown) Fairchild factory.
@@KennethAGrimm it is actually a discarded prototype! It was Boeings failed bid for a scouting aircraft. It has earned the affection of many due to the meticulous award winning restoration of N4770C by the current owner. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_L-15_Scout this is a slow and low plane that just goes and goes, one person mentioned 15 hours with onboard fuel. WOW!

No wing struts. Amazing visibility. Easy to get in out. Flying tail (no elevator, the whole horizontal stab moves). Nice plane. RG makes it a bit faster sure. Prefer fixed usually. Variable pitch prop. Fun to fly. Landings a bit tricky but otherwise a very underrated airplane 😊

I did not say that this was not a "3" model I said it is not a "B" model because it isn't. A look at the engine mount, panel, fuel tank, glareshield, turtledeck behind the seat, flap handle, & tapered fuselage prove this to be an A model. Nice plane but not a B model.
As pointed out already this is not a B model Sonex. The serial number is earlier than my 2012. The panel shape, manual flap handle on the left side (B model does not have manual flaps), dual control sticks (B model did not have a dual stick option until last year), is a clear give away. Not a bad looking airplane but it is an earlier A model. Nothing wrong with that as I've been a builder/flyer of two A models and they are great airplanes ... especially with Corvair power! 8~)
Not sure what to tell you but I was not certain and reached out to the factory with the serial number. I am a broker and have no experience with Sonex. I knew I was not a good source of info so I did my research and solicited information from people who know more than anyone, the people who designed the aircraft. They confirmed it was a 3 so I am going to go with what the factory said. Until someone from Sonex reaches out to tell me otherwise I cannot list it as anything but what the factory says. It was not recently built. Sat with a pickled engine for a few years. If you review the content in the post you will see more info about the plane.
