The New York Medieval Society is dedicated to the exchange of ideas about medieval knowledge and culture, with a focus on making resources, primary materials, and scholarly conversations available to members and audiences, especially those within and proximal to New York City. By fostering engagement with the written and artistic works of the Middle Ages, approximately 500 to 1500 AD, we aim to enliven understandings of medieval aesthetic sensibilities, as well as the intellectual and spiritual life of the period. As an interdisciplinary society, we appeal to specialists in all humanistic and artistic fields. In addition to encouraging a scholarly community, the NYMS aims to promote diverse understandings of the Middle Ages to a wider public, including students of all ages.
