Weird path here. > Be born in the early 80s in the States > Grow up loving the Pet Shop Boys > Dismiss this random ass dude rapping until some broad sings "How'm I gonna get through?" > In your 40s backlogging the good shit, wondering who the fuck Dusty Springfield is > Oh she's that chick who sang the chorus on that one song by those bad asses The Pet Shop Boys > Google for what else did Dusty Springfield do? bc she wasn't anybody noteworthy on this side of the pond... > O SHI YES SHE WAS, she's the chick who sang THIS SONG, OH DAMN
Just saw a commercial for "Thuma". I have no idea what that is, but I had to find out who the singer was. Imagine my surprise when I found out it was the late Dusty Springfield. The lady had a great voice.
If you go away on this summer day Then you might as well take the sun away All the birds that flew in the summer sky When our love was new and our hearts were high When the day was young and the night was long And the moon stood still for the night bird's song If you go away If you go away If you go away But if you stay I'll make you a day Like no day has been or will be again We'll sail on the sun, we'll ride on the rain We'll talk to the trees and worship the wind Then if you go I'll understand Leave me just enough love to hold in my hand If you go away If you go away If you go away Ne me quitte pas il faut oublier Tout peut s'oublier qui s'enfuit déjà? Oublier le temps des malentendus Et le temps perdu a savoir comment Oublier ces heures qui tuaient parfois A coups de pourquoi le coeur du bonheur Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas But if you stay I'll make you a night Like no night has been or will be again I'll sail on your smile, I'll ride on your touch I'll talk to your eyes that I love so much Then if you go I'll understand Leave me just enough love to hold in my hand If you go away If you go away If you go away If you go away as I know you must There'll be nothing left in this world to trust Just an empty room full of empty space Like the empty look I see on your face Oh, I'd have been the shadow of your shadow If it might have kept me by your side If you go away If you go away If you go away Please, don't go away Written by: Jacques Roman Brel Album: Where Am I Going Released: 1967 Lyrics provided by Musixmatch
I feel sorry for those who weren't alive in the 60s to experience real music like this great song. And what can I say about Dusty Springfield other than she was one of the best female artists of that era.
actually she was singing this song about me. we weren't an "item" for long, she got tired of me leaving clothes on the bathroom floor, i heard from friends, she said that it was terribly difficult to sing this song without breaking down. she was a wonderful lady, but i got to be me. and i only remember her as young and fresh.
was blown away by Lady Gaga's version, then came here and was blown away all over again! i love Dusty in Memphis, but had no idea she could belt like this
Yes, this was a live performance, I am sure. She described herself Method singer - she acts all her songs. At one point here, she gestures palms up as if to say, I can’t believe I did this! Perfect for the character she is portraying. Combine that with her otherworldly haunting voice and you have a rare kind of performance magic.
