Hi Jon. I'm doing the same thing to my '86 FZX700. I was told that I would need also to install an FZR1000 ignitor (with some altered wiring), but for the life of me, I CANNOT get a spark....I even tried a second FZR1000 ignitor, but no joy. Would you mind telling me what wiring changes you did to get spark? Thanks so much!

Starting with a 1986 Yamaha FZX 700 Fazer. Named 'Faze 1' due to its 1000cc engine swap, it will be on display at the 2017 Omaha World of Wheels. This was a complete nut and bolt rebuild/restore/modification. Even completely building a fresh 1000cc powerplant. Anything that was still available OEM or NOS was replaced, and anything not available was rebuilt, re-chromed or repainted as close to OEM as possible. Many parts purchesed where the last ones left in the US and we even ended up buying new parts from over seas as Fazers were available to them for many years after they were in the USA and some places still had parts on the shelves. The rest was modified to look like what we thought the bike should have been built like back in 86. It was a very long and expensive build but we feel that it was worth it, to have a truly clean, one of a kind version of a classic 80's Yamaha from the best years in Motorcycling.

jon locke I own an 87 Fazer that's had the 750 engine swapped out to the 1000, I never road a 750 so I have nothing to compare the speed and power to. What I can say is, this machine is now an incredibly powerful machine. When I accelerate on an open road I can feel the front end want to raise off the ground as I'm shifting through the gears. I've never timed it 0 to 60 but all I can say is it's extremely fast and powerful. Love this bike, I hope you're enjoying yours as much as I enjoy mine.

Dude, that is an awesome FZX!. Would you mind let us know which bike was the donor of the swing arm, rear rim, fork (with calipers) an front rim?
@jonlocke8529
@jonlocke8529 6 лет назад
Engine, rear wheel and swingarm from 1993 FZR1000. Front and complete from 1990 FZR600.

Thanks! Was it a straight swap job? Or you had to do modifications?
@jonlocke8529
@jonlocke8529 6 лет назад
Almost straight swap. Engine bolts right in with no mods. Need to change water pump, shift shaft and upper coolant tubes. Rewire a few things for single ignition. Front end slides right into fzx trees with no mods. Rear swing arm needs to have front axle mods as axle is bigger then the frame and need to fab and weld on shock mounts.

Very nice indeed. I have a 1987 stock Fazer 700 show bike that I would love to have a 1000cc motor in it. Your installation looks like it came from the factory with that motor! How about posting what you had to do to fit the 1000cc motor into a 700cc frame?

Dunno what all was done on this bike, but the cylinders are a direct bolt on.
@jonlocke8529
@jonlocke8529 6 лет назад
Nothen was need to fit 1000 motor in to 700 frame. It is a direct swap. But to make all the features work is another task. Need to swap water pump, shift shaft and upper coolant tubes. Tube mounts need to be modified as they bolt on different on the 700 head vs 1000 head. I used the 1000 carbs and made custom mounts for the carb covers. Electronics need rewired also. Single ignition pickup on 1000.
