Awesome thank you. Sadly, despite having found Peel in 1984, I managed to totally miss every Microdisney session, otherwise I would have been at this as a fresh faced 17 year old. As it was I caught a repeat broadcast their last session by which time it was too late. Thankfully I did see FMs.
It was Peel that brought me to Microdisney. I was in a hospital bed when the first session was aired and, being somewhat out of it on hospital drugs, remember floating to the end of my bed whilst listening to that session Subsequently saw them twice in Manchester, the first time bumping into them both in the street and Cathal asking if we knew where the venue was. I pointed out the venue and asked if they would be playing 586. They both took a step back, clearly utterly surprised, and asked, " You know who we are?". My mate and I had travelled 30 miles to see them and only knew the venue because we'd just had an early pint there and had headed off to find more beer. They did play 586. It was a really good gig in an intimate venue...a pub. Just right for them methinks. Second time was at Band on the Wall if I remember rightly and Cathal had probably had more to drink than I had. Live , wickedly gobby and exuberant is how I will remember him. Amongst all the wonderful other things, what about that voice?!? You've given me 40 years of joy, bless you for that.
Treasures like this are what RU-vid was invented for! This version People Just Want To Dream is awesome. Plus Half a Day and a track previously unknown to me that I can't understand why they didn't put out! 😊
I sometimes dream of an alternate universe where Sean and Cathal's artistry is properly recognised and U2's overblown pomposity never got further than Dublin's Dandelion Market. It keeps me warm of an evening. Thank you for these pearls Mike❤
I don’t know…and didn’t know off them then either. Were they trying to be like The Cure, The Associates, Wah or Orange Juice - all of whom preceded micro disney anyway?
I was there! Microdisney were superbly tight and the Go-Betweens were brilliant too! Great gig! The aftershow party was a bit messy however!🤣Happy days!
Thrilled to find this thanks so much for uploading. I was at this, and besides adoring them I’ve dined out on the memory of him saying ‘young people are very very stupid’ for 38 years and there it is! I’m not mad. Thank you
My favourite band from the 80s, should have been massive. Still listen them regularly, they're timeless . Love High Llamas too ,and Cathals solo work. RIP 🙏
