Thanks for putting this up - it's inspiring. I have a lower power transmitter, Icom IC-7000 at 50W, but could put together an LNA/PA box to mount at the antennas.

What's wrong with the ft-857??? It's a great radio for any job.

Yes it is a great all rounder. I only meant it's not as sensitive as a high end transverter is that the more serious ops use. But I've had an EME QSO to another FT857 in Japan since so I can't complain 👍🏼

Wouldn't it be better to mount the antennas so that one is perpendicularly oriented (polarized) compared to the other antenna?

No, you sacrifice 3dB, and 3dB on EME is often no QSO or QSO. Horizontal polarisation also has the advantage of peaks in ground gain.

Impressive that the signal will be doing a round trip of nearly 5000,000 miles.

5 million miles? You must've added a zero by mistake.

Especially when you calculate the inverse square law of light. How much wattage does that come to upon arrival at the moon.....and then back to base?

Well done, with my sort of budget ..... de GW7UNV

Yes, the idea was to see what was possible for relatively low cost and effort. Doesn't need megabucks and single yagi should work too. Thanks.

I'm surprised how many stations you worked with 100W. I just did my first EME with RK3FG ,at my side 100W in the shack,2x7el.DK7ZB verticaly , no preamp.73

Well done. I found a huge difference by adding a pre-amp. Also it helped my 100w amplifier was at the antennas. "100w in the shack" will have some extra attenuation of course. Good Luck & 73!
