My passion is helping students find their unique visual voice.
In addition to making my own art, I love creating lesson content focused on abstract painting, mixed media painting, and printmaking techniques with step-by step instructions. In other lessons, I reference skills associated with various artists and the creative process.
Love this! Especially the idea of colour mixing on the substrate to create a background, using the found objects to create pattern and depth is excellent. This is a perfect "get unstuck" exercise, and/or one to create painted papers for use as collage material. Thanks for sharing!
Ariana, Here's the link to creating collage cards. The sound might not be that great. I was still figuring out the tech on my iPAD. Enjoy ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MQOLGoUaqwc.html
I wish I had your confidence - you seemed to know exactly what you wanted at each step, even as the piece was developing semi-organically! Really enjoyed the development of this work, the explanation of your thought process, and explaining the how of your techniques to get a desired effect.
Thank you for the compliment. While this lesson contained spontaneity, it was carefully planned out so students would understand the steps. It was my second video. The first one was a flop. I think it’s important to know what goes on behind the scenes. Just keep making art and your confidence will grow.
There is so much guidance and thought shared on exploration, most of which while fascinating often leaves the viewer lost when it comes to application. What I love about this is it is so incredibly simple and at the same time so powerful as an exercise in determining how far you can push the tools you have available to you. Thanks again for sharing. I’ll definitely be doing several!! ❤❤❤
This lesson surprised me as well. Sometimes simple is best. Stay tuned…more to come. I’ll be taking next week off due to spring break. Demonstration videos will be posted the following week. Thanks for your enthusiasm and support.
Love both parts!! This is definitely one of those "I wonder how they do that" moments come to life. Thank you for sharing the technique and your talent. Much appreciated.
I like the idea of creating flow under a painting first. It gives direction, but doesn’t have to be complex or complete leaving room for inspiration and discovery. Great video! 👍🏻
Yeah! Seems like this would really suit a rectilinear design. And good for experimenting with colour combos. Going to get that brayer out tomorrow! Thanks and Best R
@@lauradennylaura, julie merrill here. Recovering from Covid. I love watching this abstract with the brayer!! Great color choices. Cant wait to jump in!!! Thank you!
Sue Clear packing tape works well to pull off Posca pen and dried acrylic paint. I often deliberately leave dried paint on my gel plate to be incorporated into future prints. I love the random and surprising effects l get. If you want a more pristine and clean look, packing tape is my recommendation. Clear tape can also be used to make stickers. Hope this helps. Laura
wow the pattern that the paper towel leaves on the paper is so awesome! i've been wanting to get something like that but i don't want to buy stencils. tysm!! and there's so much other inspiration here ♥
I love the silly tapping noises as well! I purchased the deli or sandwich paper at a store called Smart and Final. I just did an online search and there are many brands to be found. First Street was the brand I purchased. A ream of 1000 sheets was around $12.00.
Wow that's so cool, I've never heard of transparent paint. My neighbor is an artist and I saw this video and had to watch. I'm going to show him later. He's 76 and I think he'll love these transparent paints. Thanks for doing the chart with the different techniques. I really loved it. ❤ My neighbor has been encouraging me to paint and I might have to try the transparent paints.
Ji, Understand this You are very blessed, powerful and fortunate soul. My soul brother, we all have TWO fathers our Soul's Father SHIVA SUPREME SOUL FATHER OF ALL SOULS on earth and body's father who gave birth . Have a Great Wonderful future ahead with excellent health, wealth and prosperity 🙏🏻🌹😊
If you plan to mix and roll out for as long as Laura does, you *will* want to use acrylic paint with Open medium so the paint doesn’t dry out. Otherwise, most regular acrylic is fine. Golden Open medium is around $8 for 4 oz at most online art stores. The “stencil” Laura uses is called sequin waste or punchinella.
I'd love to see you reproduce this in reverse on the gelplate. Would be great to see your thought process and a comparison of the two pieces at the end.
Great idea. I work very organically and respond to student needs and requests. This would probably be an outside of class video as it’s a bit more advanced. The idea is logged in my brain!
@@lauradenny Thank you! I’m currently watching more of your channel. I took printmaker in college and loved it. I’m retired and now in a position to explore it more.
Cool to see. I've tried this too, but really like the prints you pulled. I do have difficulty pulling light colors on the plate, pulling with dark paint. Still experimenting to find best way to accomplish that. Your Prussian Blue second pull pulled up the lights very well.
That is the beauty of the Gelli printing process; you never know what you’re going to get…the best planning does not always produce what was expected. Thank you for sharing all your fearless techniques.
