Hey Ellie! I have a question as an overthinky actor…I sometimes go quite red on my face, neck and chest - is this a common thing that you guys deal with and touch up regularly on set covering with foundation etc. ? I have a first camera acting job coming up and it’s become an annoying worry I just can’t get out of my head 😂
I recommend ay course, it's hard to say or know what a good course is until you're there and with your teacher. But I would say do as much work experience as you can! thats where you will learn the most
Hi ellie, i am also a makeup artist and i was from india . I want to work with you so can you please make me a assistant of yours! I was looking for professional makeup artists thats why!
Hi Ellie, I’m a hopefully to be makeup artist. I’m wondering if you’d have time to chat with me about makeup artistry? I’m Sydney based and applying to makeup school and I’d love to be able to chat with someone like yourself about to many questions about the industry. ☺️ All good if it’s not possible as I know how busy you must be! Thank you so much for telling us all about what this industry is like and I’m super excited to join the field in the next year.
The store you are describing sounds like a great place to go - I keep hearing about bridal salons that just don't let customers browse through the dresses, only employees are allowed to handle them. One thing I think didn't get covered here that is really useful when prepping for wedding dress shopping is learning the terms for the different types of wedding dress silhouettes and pieces. It's really unhelpful to have a bride go in saying she wants a mermaid when the image in her head is actually a fit-n-flare. I need to find a video that shows and names these kind of things so I can link people to it.
Hey Ellie! I just found your content when looking into makeup art! I’m a recent graduate from highschool with a degree in Visual Arts but now I really want to make professional makeup my career. I know you mentioned it doesn’t matter what school you go to but my would be question what should I major in? I’m very interested in the film aspect (I’m unsure if that determines what go to school for)
Hi, im new here and i love your videos! May I ask if you ever worked in the US and if so, how did you get a visa? I understand that MUA is a freelance profession and there a re not a lot of options for foreigners working freelance in the US. Thank you so much for all the videos ❤
It’s all one set. I did a super detailed version in this video xx Standby Makeup Kit For Film & Tv ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8SvTIJy9jbU.html
By "standby" does that mean you have this kit in addition to your regular kit while on set? Or is this a kit you have ready for in case you get called to work on a film last minute? Or something else?
Great question. I should have explained this. So as a MUA. You have your hair and makeup kit to get people ready. Then you have another kit called your standby kit. And this has mini versions of lots of things your main kit has. As well as other trouble shooting products. The reason things are mini. Or decanted into smaller containers. Is because this you carry around with you all day. To do all touch ups on your talent
Does that make sense. I’m going to film an entire video explaining I think. And showing the rest of my standby kit. Because this is just a small portion
It sort of makes sense, but I'm still a little unclear on the purpose of the standby kit. If you made a video explaining it, I would definitely watch :)
@@EllieMayMansfield I normally work in the AD department but I'm moving a bit more toward the make up department so I love to see your videos with the little things and advice that actual do matter when on set. I did in February a short film the director wanted the main actor to have this wet look. Thank goodness I actually had pack a little bottle with plain water ahah
Good for you! I look forward to the day we can work together!! it’s so crazy isn’t it? You really do need one of everything. Do you only make a mistake once, and then you will never leave without that thing
@@EllieMayMansfield absolutely. It's still a learning curve but slowly and surely we'll get there. Would love to assist you one day. If you are ever in England or Portugal get in touch eheh :D
Hey Ellie, thanks for the ideas. I was wondering , I saw in another video you dried and sanitized your brushes with a machine that do both at the same time . How do you manage not damaging your brushes ? Because I bought the same one and some of my brushes were damaged they would pop off because of the heat. Any suggestions ? Thank you
Yes that does happen after a wile. It’s because the heat inside can melt the glue and then dislodges the top. I sometimes use just the sanitise function. Not the heat. So it’s clean but not melted. And I don’t use it every time I wash a brush. Just every now and then for a good deep clean. Because it does wear the brush down.
