Thanks for the kind words! ☺️ I did took a pretty long break, life got in a way, but I hope that in few months I will be able to start uploading my reviews on regular basis again ☺️
Honestly, I enjoyed that quite a lot. I thought some of the stuff was pretty funny. There were a lot of POVs, but I couldn't have it any other way. Now, I would recommend it to the appropriate person. The plot was all over the place, and I thought the judge bit was insane but funny. I'm glad she ended up with all of them instead of just one. 😂
I love time travel and I was so excited when I read what this book was about. I listened to the audiobook ( HUGE mistake because when the narrator was Bella it was beyond annoying). She made her sound like a valley girl. I listened to this in one day only because I needed to find out what happened at the end 5 years later. The whole book was a waste of time and I just didn’t like it at all. I cannot believe she had sex with him after her best friend died.
Just read this book and you summed up my feelings perfectly. I thought the beginning was awesome and creepy, then it quickly went downhill when it became a standard action fantasy. The effigies on their own didn’t scare me at all, the idea that some one or something was making them was scarier. The reveal of the manuscript and the world of the white ones was just boring. Didn’t hate the book, but it definitely wasn’t what I expected.
i read it quickly for a school thing and i also at first got the impression that dorian was just an innocent guy that got caught up with the wrong crowd but then on the second time i read it (this time in english) dorian seemed much more at fault than first i thought
Finally I kept seeing everyone raving about it. Exactly those two parts were the only 2 spooky parts. Well written but when everything about the effigies and Anna came about. It truly killed the book for me. I have so many questions about the whole world they lived in and the Anna stuff was all rushed. Also yes the manuscript wasn’t eventful in my opinion. I do think the book was an easy read until the whole Anna stuff started.
Thank you for posting this honest review. I gave up at page 406. It was terrible. I had to look up what happened in the end and it certainly shouldn’t have taken 640+ pages to reach that point.. since I have nothing nice to say about this book. I will end my comment here. 😂
Very Interesting and inspiring video! I really like that you have pointed out the complexity of the formation of Dorian’s conducts. It is critical and well elaborated! Concerning the “boredom” you have mentioned, it might be a phenomenon of “fin de siecle” , a common decadent cultural phenomenon among late nineteenth century bourgeois. Lord Henry is quite a “fin de siecle” type and from the last chapter it could be evidently seen that he actually dare not to practice his aesthetic theory (maybe I’m wrong) and he is quite “envy” of Dorian (despite knowing Dorian’s sins). At that time, as far as I’m concerned, in Dorian’s eyes, Lord Henry might not a Mephistopheles any more but rather an old, wrinkled and tired man. He is striped off the cloth of a devil and be shown as a complex human. Over the years Lord Henry has been regarded as a purely diabolical type but it might not be totally true… Also, from some chapters it can be seen that Dorian’s childhood was full of loneliness and did not get enough attention, which might also lead his characteristics… It’s a really complicated question:) Even being a person with low English level, I still read this book and enjoyed it, and chose to write my high school thesis on this novel. It is an impressing work and full of Wilde’s own wit and attitude, though it became one of the very evidences against him in the court. The story is fascinating as well as complex, being open to interpretation… Overall, thank you very much for sharing your ideas! It is really helpful!
@@juditareads it's ok. I literally bought it for a storm blackout situation that lasts days or (God forbid) another quarantine/stay home Covidia situation
Haha better be prepared! 😄😄 Though let's hope none of these situations will actually happen any time soon and so you will not need to rush to experience all that Den of Vipers has to offer 😅
That's a pretty convincing opinion. That said, is it more convincing than the thought of the amount of books i've bought and not yet finished? I can't answer that yet and I don't feel the need to. But this book has definitely had it's place on the candidate list solidified. Now i just gotta get my reading glasses on.
I remember seeing the book on tiktok and someone hyping it up as a hot dark romance. Thank you for your service. We appreciate the time you sacrificed reading it to save us all from questioning our life choices.
I have been struggling with finding books that I want to read because I am quite picky and reviews usually scare me away. I really love the way you construct your videos ♥ I think I will give this book a chance! (I stopped before the spoilers aaaa). I just cross my fingers this heroine is not a badass sassy one. I noticed some books in that genre have a heroine that is always loud and barks at everyone and that just usually makes me dislike the protagonist and give up. Amazing video!! I subbed and can't wait to watch all the older videos to see if I can find more gems!!
I'm so happy to hear that you find my videos helpful! Makes my day 🥰 As for Poppy, I would definitely define her as a badass, "can do all" type of protagonist, but there were layers to her character which I personally found interesting to explore ☺️ Enjoy your reading! Hope you'll find the book entertaining!
Young people are very impressionable and especially when they don’t have any good role models to guide through life it’s very easy to get stray away from the right path. Its understandable how Dorian was impressed and influenced by Lord henry. Henry was very manipulative and full of toxic ideas. Still I don’t hate Henry as it was Dorian who made the choices in his life, despite feeling remorse for his actions from time to time. He kept on justifying his actions by blaming others especially Basil.
Just came acoross this channel because of Eeny Meeney and I have to say that I just live how you make thise videos. Keep going ❤ This was my first thriller book and I though it was fun but I can understand where people come from that sometimes it was a little rough/ boring
Thanks @Raquelletje22! It's lovely to have you around my channel 🥰 These kind of thrillers can really be and acquired taste! If you did enjoy it though, I would absolutely suggest you to give And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie a try. To me, that's hands down the very best whodunit novel I have ever read 🤓
Indeed I have, the first part. Working on a video for it now 😁 Though I can't say that I liked it... 😅 But then again, different strokes, for different folks 😉
@@juditareads I found it slightly healing in the second book! It was definitely a tough read for me and I found myself putting it down several times because it was just… a LOT for me at least. Can’t wait for your video!!
I can easily understand how this book can be a lot for someone starting with DR. Instead of dipping your toes you dived in, head first! 😁 I personally have read quite a lot of DR (Penelope Douglas being my go to author) and while I believe that dark places in HA were daaark, I just found the overall story to be repetitive and the quality of the writing a little too fan fiction like. I guess I just expected more, because of all the hype 🤔 🤷♀️ And while I do have plenty of guilty pleasure reads that I love despite seeing all their weaknesses, HA just wasn't for me 😶 Welcome to DR though, hope you'll continue checking it out! 😊
I found your channel through "The Picture of Dorian Gray" analysis and just wanted to say how much I appreciate your work. I was just looking for some book recs and your channel is my way to go - you should have tens of thousands of subscribers with all the fantastic work you do! Also, your voice is just perfect for this types of videos! So articulate and soothing. Thanks again!
You just made my day! 😍😁 Thank you for all your kind words, it's such a pleasure to hear that you find my channel helpful, that makes it all worth it ☺️
Thanks! Though maybe we are the problem 🤔 Maybe it's just me who has never experienced an orgasm just by popping "a ball" into my mouth 😶 You never know! 😂
@@juditareads No , after reading this I came to know that , that was the first book . Also I kinda liked Catalina and Aron Lil moments from the book , so had to give it a try❤️
Thank you for this. I saw other reviews and I thought maybe I had miss the mark because I couldn't stand Dannie. She is the worse friend possible and she keeps asking people if she is a good person and the Answer is No. My friends and I honestly thought that so many things by the middle of the book. We thought the real life is the dream. She's in a psychiatric ward and she is living this outside life in her mind. Bella can time travel also so she knows that Dannie sucks. That Dannie has amnesia and that's why she keeps questioning Bella when she is reminded of something. Overall everything we imagined would have been a better ending that what actually happened.
I laughed throughout this entire review because everything you said is SO TRUE!! I just finished this book and it is quite possibly the WORST book I have EVER read. And I have read A LOT of books. I do not understand all the 5 star reviews. Were they paid?? Idk.. 0/10 I do not recommend!
@@juditareads understandable. Keep reading and give us some some great reviews on books so that I don't have to go through summaries after summaries lol
I heard good things about the series so I picked up Twisted Love. Just from the synopsis the characters seemed generic but I’ve seen works that are able to do a lot with generic character stereotypes. But this book didn’t really go anywhere with the cast. When they got to the whole “Emotion Experiment” I was done. The exchanges between Ava and Alex were cute, but it felt like complete filler that could’ve been used developing the backstories for each character. It had potential to be good, but it just fell flat. Not terrible, but I’m probably never gonna read another book in the series.
Couldn't agree more! I feel like the characters being so stereotypical wouldn't have annoyed me nearly as much as it did, if I would have seen any actual grow or change in them, by the end of the book. And while I can't truly recommend you to spend any more of your precious time on these series, I do have to admit that the Twisted Love is the weakest one among them. Other's aren't good either, but in my humble opinion, they are definitely better than this one.
Here to annoy you a bit more. Inspired by you, I read a Stephen King book "the institute"! You must have read ig? This is book is ... How do I describe? I like it.
