What kills me about Duophonic mode on the CM1A is that the second note reverts to the first note when you release. So there's no way to play a two note chord that has any sort of release time. Mutant Brain is the far superior product in almost every way.
Hi, I just stumbled on this channel. The way the Poly D works is basically the same as the Korg Monopoly. I don't know if the poly D does it, but the monopoly had a chord mode in wich having different oscillators can be nice. Another famous Monopoly mode (in this case is was not a real mode but some quirk when using a sequencer) is the round robin mode. In the round robin mode, the synth plays each oscillator one after the other even when recieving a mono sequence, is pretty usefull for making strange techno loop ! Probably, watching people use the Korg Monopoly can inspire you to all the strange and marvelous things that this stange oscillator of the Poly D can do.
Yes, I hear you, having the different oscillators playing different shapes and pitches could make for some cool sequences, and I've got to be honest, I haven't explored the sequencer at all. Do I wish I'd bought the MonoPoly instead of the PolyD - maybe!
Did you manage to map the monologue knobs and buttons? i'm trying to use my korg minilogue as a midi controller, but mapping isn't working for me on ableton :(
Yea, super simple. Because the mechanisms inside are plastic I was confident to wash them with warm soapy water, nothing 'specialist' needed. Hope your clearning/restoration goes well!
Honestly, I know nothing about the Buchla ecosystem but my gut instinct says proceed with caution, this may indeed fry your gear. I might think about using an oscilloscope (NTS2?) to help diagnose the issue?
Every time i hook up to beat step pro to the fm2 and play notes it sometimes does random notes and the play button on the fm2 goes crazy…. Someone please help me
Great stuff, and a costume change for nearly every one too! I have Vintage too, and as you say, it’s fine for what it is, and does the job, what more could you want!
I'm not knowledgable enough to go full Linux, although with the changes Microsoft are making with Win 11, I think this is an option many folks will take...
@@abominablemusic Please, Microsoft has been spying on them since 7. Probably even Vista. Every time they cry about leaving for Linux, yet they never do. It's like smoking. They all know it's bad for them, yet they don't quit, because they are weak ass female canine's beholden to their corporate overlords. Linux doesn't require any knowledge. If you can read, you have everything you need - and that's for the difficult distros. If you use something easy like Linuxmint, you can just install it and it just works. It even has the same shortcuts as Windows. So please no lame excuses. Question is; are you a smoker?
@@abominablemusic Oh, RU-vid censored again. You might have to sort your comments by newest to see what I wrote in case it's not already visible for you. It isn't for me without doing it.
Clever idea, dude. I'm jealous I didn't think of it. (BTW : No one can delete stuff, but people may be able to fork it and make their own version. But that would be cool.)
One thing to note is that the TD-3 CV can be calibrated with their synthtribe software and a multimeter. I found that mine was just a little bit off on all voltages, a tiny bit, but probably would explain your detuning.
thanks...I have a .revue type gig at theatre that includes Madonna's 80's hit Holiday ....I'm doubling Elec bass and synth bass...may use my Poly D as don't want to leave my real Model D for 3 week run.Anybody able to hear if that part has multi on is closer? ..sorry for rando question..thank you for this video!!
@@ZacBelcher yes indeed, a brand new mac mini seems like a bargain given its power. But, I need a device for live performance, so I needed something 'for the road'... Cheers!
Good to have you back, even if it’s only briefly! Food poisoning is a real b@st@rd and can have far reaching impacts, so I hope you’re feeling 100% soon. Great jam, and good luck with the walking. Best wishes.
hello, im trying to do music for videogames using reaper. In reaper the loop sounds perfect when i do the normal export and i listen back the loop doesnt sound correct anymore and i hear some milliseconds of nothing and then it starts again....can you help me? i could try this method you showed here. I have an exam and the teacher wants perfect loops. I will have to biy ableton if i cant work with reaper (that i love honestly)
Rings does have a dedicated Karplus-Strong 'mode', but I'd say Rings is far more complex than Pluck, and will cover more sonic territory. Pluck is really just trying to be a good 'plucked string' synth, using Karplus Strong. Paul Nagle has an excellent explanation of Rings, should be easy to find using DuckDuckGo... Cheers! 😀
I just bought this module and did not realise it does not have note velocity, so the midi from my daw cannot control the volume of each note sent. All the notes sent have the same volume. Is there a workaround ?
Well, I'm no modular expert, but things are certainly less sophisticated in modular world, everything is just voltage based. The work-around is probably using an envelope generator (sustain, which is a level) and a VCA. I think this why modular enthusiasts have loads of VCAs in their rigs. Also, maybe use of filter could also work? Good luck!
I guess it's just how the patch was put together, I guess this is one of the 'cons' with sample instruments, you can't dramatically alter the fundamental patch.
circuit benders also don't know how to circuit bend-- it can take some experimenting :~) Often newer toy keyboards like these have all the logic on a single chip glued to the board in a blob of black paste. This cheaper manufacturing method makes it impossible (or at least staggeringly difficult) to find interesting parts to connect. Anywho, excellent sounds squeezed out of the little toy. The jack seemed like a huge success, and the paint job looks clean

Hi There thanks for your videos. I've seen some videos about synching the Poly D with protools in logic, so its sequencer or arpeggiator are in time with the bpm of the track but none with pro tools. I'd love to be able to do this but I still can't get a sound to pro tools when using usb cable from Poly D to laptop. I can get nice sounds from my left and right out straight into the interface but no luck with midi. Protools can find it and I've selected it as my midi controller just doesn't make any sound. Any sugestions please. Thanks.
I know nothing about protools, but you could try a couple of things: does synthtribe 'see' the polyD? Are the midi channels what you expect (send and receive could be different)? You could also use the MIDI dim outputs, although you would need a USB to midi interface. I had another question about the polyD and the USB not working, so could be a fundamental issue here... good luck!
@@abominablemusic Thanks, yeah synth tribe sees the poly d and I can make changes there, I might try get a midi interface and try it that way rather than usb.
Interesting video. Thanks. I have had a Poly D for just over a year. I am a bass player using it with Studio Logic pedals in my cover band. Just for some fill-in sounds. Anyways, I plugged it into a PC for the first time the other day. The message I got on the PC was the USB device failed. I tried different cables, different USB slots on the PC, re-booting etc. As far as I know the PC software is up to date based on updating at shutdown. Google answers I got for a fix ranged from the things I have done to replacing the USB port on the synth. Do you have any suggestions or thoughts? I really hope I don't have to replace the USB port on the Poly. I am not sure who would even do that? A computer store or a music store? Thanks in advance for any help.
well, short answer is I don't know... But maybe trying another PC is easier than messing with the synth, maybe try a friends/family PC, since SynthTribe won't take much resource. There are companies that work on synths, but this sounds like it could be pricey work unfortunately... If you're happy with keeping it as an old-school synth, then don't worry about the USB (since it has MIDI din also, so you can sequence this via MIDI or using the onboard sequencers, but, yea, bummer!! sorry to hear this...
well, you could just turn the volume down on the synth, or just turn each oscillator off (each voice has an on/off switch), or simply not plug the audio cable into your mixer/audio interface. The polyD doesn't send audio over USB, just MIDI. Cheers!
Lovely drone sound from the Modular! I assume the NTS-1 was just for FX? If you want a real spooky location over tha border, get yourself to Glasgow's Necropolis, on a late, misty autumnal afternoon ... 😮
thanks! Yea, it did cross my mind to nip to Glasgow, but I went to Berwick Upon Tweed instead. Glasgow is on my radar, so thanks for the tip, I'll do some research. I try to get to Scotland every year, so something for my next adventure!
