Welcome to my RU-vid channel, where you will find many of the Trade Test Colour Films which BBC2 showed around the time it went from Black & White to Colour broadcasting.

Many of these films were really interesting and I still occasionally watch them for a bit of nostalgia for how things were done "properly" in days gone by. Tracking down these films and getting copies is both time-consuming and (unfortunately) can be fairly expensive ☹️

I hope you like the channel and perhaps enjoy some of the films again 😊 If so, you can Buy Me a Coffee to show your appreciation/support for the channel - the link is below.

I've also uploaded some public information films from around the same time too, and hopefully you will enjoy at least some of them too 😊

Thanks for visiting 😊

I remember (I think) a film with a dad and his son in the either Africa or the Amazon whizzing around on a long tree canoe with an engine at the back - I think they were called something link Bulong and Bola. I'm sure I'll find it one day.

I remember watching this in the late 60s on BBC 2 there was a small selection of BP films, Maria and Franco the main characters are no longer with us, it's a great love story between them, thanks for putting it on RU-vid. The music is fantastic

And to think... men today ride around town on electric scooters debating on which one has the better smelling deodorant. In 50 short years, we've lost as Westerners. Imagine having to go to war against an enemy who only wishes for your destruction like the Allies had to deal with in WWII with prissy scooter-driving men leading the charge.

I remember watching the range of BP short films as test material as a youth. It was nice to discover that many have survived, and at the age of 72 relive the start of colour transmission on television Thanks to all who have enabled this.

Yes, I remember watching originally, early BBC2 trade test transmission. I must have been on 6 weeks holidays from school and about 10 yo when I last saw it. Was trying to place the singer, thought it was Frank Ifield just couldn't remember his name.

Like others comments here, saw this as a kid and have never forgotten SIDE!!! In fact, I'm going to get a T shirt with that on it! And also, electricity never misses a chance to complete a circuit! Should get some strange looks, and knowing looks from some of a certain age!!

I thought that sounded like Frank Ifield... at the height of his career when this was made. A nice piece of early 60s cinematography. 😊 Thanks for posting.

I only vaguely remember this one, but Atlantic Parks, Evoluon, Single Propeller, Plastics and Giuseppina were watched many times, and have stayed in the old memory. Still it's a great one and a bit of Gary Cooper influence in the acting, it seems.

This is 1964-65. The VC 10 shown in the two men talking scenes (which is the point of the film) did not enter service until 1964. The London street scenes are stock footage but can be dated (by a Dr Crippen film poster on bus at 4:11) to Aug 1963. The Edinburgh Festival poster at 16:29 is the 1964 version

We got our colour TV especially for the moon landing in 1969... Unfortunately most of it was broadcast in black and white... I remember this as one of the BBC Trade Transmissions and because of it always wanted to visit this cathedral affectionately known as 'Paddy's Wigwam' Took nearly fifty four years but finally visited it last week... 😮 Still remember people knocking on the door to see our colour TV... The new ariel gave us away ☺️

It's interesting seeing what remained of the palace. It' a shame that it's built over part of the old palace but when. you go there it makes you realise how large it was (the footprint of the palace was even larger when it was in Hyde park, although in Penge Common, the palace had a larger volume ar 30.32). The square water tower is still there when this was taken which powered the water flumes/rides at 30.32. At 32.29 you can see the fountains are still there, along with the central walkway. At 38.17 you can see the grand victorian villas that were sadly demolished to build rather horrible flats. You can also see Rockhills, the victorian villa where the designer of the palace, Joseph Paxton lived. This too was sadly demolished. 4.30 you can see a very small part of the part of the palace that survived the fire but was burnt down by moro…i mean arsonists, in around 1956. This linked up with the lower station which still survives and has been restored (in the early 90s this too was derelict).

I’m fairly sure that the end of the film shows Eastcote, with other locations around the area, such as Ruislip Gardens tube station (the viaduct and old Central tube stock give it away).
