RV Nomads working remote, boondocking full time in our 2023 Host Mammoth 11.6 and exploring in our heavily modified 2015 Jeep Rubicon. Follow us on our adventures!
Yes, indeed! We were lucky enough to make a decent profit when we sold our last rig so it didn’t hurt so bad. RVs in general have gotten crazy expensive!
Very nice. Good balance of mods. What was the thing above the door on the inside? Have you thought about repurposing the black tank or the space it takes up?
Thanks! The black tank is shared by both the toilet and vanity, both in the same slide. Since the vanity is still connected to it, we decided to leave it as is. We had thought about removing the tank and just using a bucket under the sink but don’t want to make it too custom, for resale purposes. As it is, it’s easy to go back to a conventional toilet since we just capped off the water line and used a test plug in the toilet drain. Above the door was a rolling blind/valence that we removed when we installed the built in blind for the door window. Thanks for watching!
Have y’all weighed your setup? That truck is likely DANGEROUSLY overloaded. Not trying to troll but rather warn y’all that you need to get a 5500 for that sized TC.
@@WheelinwiththeWendes me too. I had an incident where one of my rear wheels fell off going 60 mph. Not a fun time. I have since also upgraded to a 5500. Way more stable!
On either side of the bed, in the very small wardrobe closets. We’ve learned to pare down to the minimum and buy only if we need it. We also use clear Walmart Sterlite containers stacked inside to utilize every vertical inch possible.
Not sure what you mean, other than the hitch extension. We haven’t touched yet… and we boondock 90% of the time. We also since upgraded to a 5500 and Kelderman suspension which gives us a bit more clearance.
Thank you.! I was considering one of these for our family of 3. This helped me to make a lots of decisions along the way, as I was watching your tour. God bless you and have a wonderful time on your journeys. ❤🎉😊
I have a 2008 Host Everest and really like the space & dry bath. The stickers on the outside are pretty bad, Alaska has alot of sunlight, not getting them is a great idea. Mine is pretty dated compared to your new one. Great video, thanks.
Nice camper but how you can live with a woman like that is beyond me she is a know it all I can tell my dad would say her mouth runs like a whipperwills ass.
Hi we are thinking of buying this same year and model , any specific concerns we should be looking at , and would you recommend a purchase , we are not really hauling it . Any short comings in the rv ? Appreciate your input
It’s a 16,000 grain model On-the-Go water softener. For a rig this size, you could probably get away with the smaller 8,000 grain unit but we go through a lot of water since we’re fulltime. It’s definitely a gamechanger out west where the water is so hard.
Another question. Typically these are used in between the hook ups. When you are filling the tanks do you use it and how much longer does it take to fill
@@WheelinwiththeWendes Awesome, that’s what it’s all about - glad to hear it! Real quick, you two pretty satisfied having it on the 1ton? Thanks, looking forward to the follow-up!
I would be very careful about setting up a host camper off of the truck. The couple beside us down here in key west had there 11 6 on the Jack's about 10 inches off the ground and 2 of the happy Jack's pulled out of the camper and it collapsed while sitting off the truck. They had the stable campers braces deployed and the Jack's still pulled out of the camper. When it rolled over it missed our northern lite by maybe 2 inches. We lucked out. The 2024 host they had us a total loss.
Thanks for the info, we agree. We RARELY take ours off, only if the truck needs service. Even then, I hate it being on the jacks. The only way I can see it being safely stored off the truck is if the base itself is being supported.
We’ve actually since traded up to a 5500. Ultimately the payload wound up being close to 2000lbs. over and just didn’t feel safe. I’ll be doing a video on it in the near future.
Loved seeing your rig and really enjoyed all the organization. You guys are inspirational. One question, with all the sliders in, can you still access everything one needs for a quick stop?
Not sure what you’re getting at but I am closest to the entry door. Both when working and when in bed. Entry door is on the curb side. Same side I sleep on and my office is right at the entry door.
Are your panels 200 watt Hightec? Is the 3" part of the angle on the roof? Any reason that you did not put the rivit nut in the panel frame? Stronger with the angle or just higher? Did you need to drill the holes in the panel corners for the angle brackets? Love your idea. I'm in the process of putting (6) Hightec215 watt panels on my 5th wheel. I already have the full Vitron Setup except for the charge controller, a 150/100 unit. I've been dealing with Continuous Resources for about a year now, good people.
Not really, the angle it’s at actually works pretty good. Super dialing in the absolute best angle would gain such a negligible amount. All about making it simple! 😎
I really don’t know, towards the sun? LOL I didn’t go for a specific angle, just matched close to where they were originally when manual tilting all of them. If I had to guess, close to 45 degrees? Maybe 35-40?
Great video and thanks for sharing your home. I've made note of several of your modifications to install into our Mammoth also. One thing you could do with the morgue door is to remove the whole door and frame and flip it to open up vice down to open up clearance on the bottom. Then just add a bracket to hold the door open. We're heading for Quartzite in a few weeks, maybe we'll see you at the Truck Camper Rally? Happy Camping!
Thanks! We’ve made many more upgrades over the last year and will be doing another video shortly. We will be at the rally also, along with the one in Washington later in the year. We’ve since upgraded the truck to a 5500 Ram with a flat bed and had it painted white. Stop by and say hi! I’ve thought about flipping the door also but added chains to keep it as a “table”.
The storage cubes were from WalMart and the fan was from Amazon. Less than $100 and super easy to install. It works soooo much better without replacing the entire unit. Vortex Ii Vent Fan Upgrade www.amazon.com/dp/B017C0RLP2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Nice video. Watching from inside your vehicle perspective made me think that hi-lift Jack is some final destination stuff right there… also, when hiking alone in the desert, I highly recommend carrying a gun, from personal experience I have come across 3 mountain lions, it’s better to have it and not need it… 👍
Dude. This video was suggested to me, I guess because I was looking into linear actuators for my panel. This makes so much more sense… how did the struts hold up over time? Is there anything you’d have done differently after having them for a bit? Thank you very much, I was making it way too difficult.
That is an option from the factory. We opted for the small sofa so we could easily remove it and replace with a workstation since we both still work remotely fulltime. The desktop we used for the workspace is actually the "folding area" that comes with the washer/dryer option. We just ordered and repurposed it.
