Cat Boat Adventures is a blog that is dedicated to everything Cat Boat. Sailing to all those little coves, harbors and rivers that only a Cat Boat or shallow draft boat can go. This is called "Gunkholing" and it is a lot of fun.
Let's start a conversation! Join me in venturing out to all those gunkholing sites in Buzzards Bay and the greater New England area and join in the fun.
Enjoyed this episode. I have a 6 year old granddaughter that would be so excited to have this kind of adventure. I have a 42’ trawler so I need some deeper ports to hide treasure in. But if I ever go back to sailing, it will be on a Marshall Sanderling… Posting from Grand Rivers, KY on shores of Lake Barkley. Cheers!
The cat boat is beautiful too. I want to did something similar with my kids. We had saved pennies in a big car boy thousands and thousands so I taught them how to do orienteering and made them go halfway around the town and woods and waters etc. on a treasure hunt and I had buried everything when they found it. It was so cool they brought it in laid out all the pennies in a big sheet enrolled in it.
After 1 year of ownership, how are things going with your GB36? Any issues that you didn't expect or regrets going with a single engine vs a twin? And lastly, has docking been a issue with the single and bow thruster combination?
Very nice friendship sloop.! ❤❤❤. These classics. And the cutter rig makes it even more gorgeous and classic looking. Excellent drone work btw. You have a good pilot! Best angles! More all inclusive of sailing view.. thanks .
Mine is a 1981 Classic with a single 120hp Lehman. So far so good on our journey from Panama City FL to Rhode Island. We are about half way through Georgia at the moment As you can tell I’ve transitioned from sailing catboats to a Grand Banks. I just have’t figured out how to rename my youtube channel Thanks for your comment. I really appreciate it.
Not sure where I'd heard it but someone told me the cat boats were so called because the mast was carried between the catheads in the bow of the boat...?
So the jib and stay sail stays don't pull it up and ruin the set of the sails. Also they are the stays helping to hold the mast up right at the proper angle.
Hi Ed, I just realized I didn't respond to this. I wouldn't believe the chart. But that said I recommend entering and exiting between 2-3 hours before and after high tide. I did run aground because I didn't pay attention to my own advice. There is also a big rock on the left side of the channel that I discovered the hard way. The entrance should be over on the right of the channel. But other than that rock the bottom is all sand or mud and so running aground is no big deal. Give it a try! Thanks again for commenting. I really appreciate it.
Cat Boat Adventures the bit before this. Tim opened with the sad passing over the bar, but followed it with welcoming Ben Delong’s new baby to the group. It would be nice to get that, and all the awards available somewhere. I assumed that was recorded as well.

Keep it up! Looking forward for more videos from you, don't stop! Would you like to be RU-vid friends? :)
Hi David, I am so sorry. I just noticed your comment. Yes it is a Marshall 22. Doing that video was one of the highlights of my life. To see the spirit and enthusiasm on my grandson's face was priceless. Now that I've set the bar high, and will have to so something for the other grandkids. Oh no!!! Thanks again for your comment. I really do appreciate it.
Thank you so much. You may want to see an updated to that video that contains some stunning areal footage of that river. It can be found at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4O7Dsp-Iw0Q.html Enjoy, and thank you so much for your comment. I really appreciate it.
Hi Rex. Thank you so much for your comment. I really appreciate it. And let's stay in touch. Narragansett Bay is definitely on my plan. In fact I already did a video on a Friendship Sloop out of Wickford RI. Take a look. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-64M1YqHvOMU.html Also, not sure if you saw the video on the Padanaram Rendezvous. I have two versions on my RU-vid site. A shorter version. And the long version with the Awards Ceremony. You were mentioned in that video by Bruce Almeida. Here is the link to that video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0CAvbRWLKk8.html Enjoy, Jim...
Hi again Rex. By any chance do you sail out of Wickford? I would like to keep in touch regarding doing some videos in Narragansett Bay. Also, did you just attend the CatBoat Association annual meeting this past weekend?
@@catboatadventures7208 Yes, sail out of Wickford. Missed the Mystic event this year due to a ski weekend invitation. Look me up in CBA directory and Catboat in.
Yeah, I discovered that by pure accident. I intentionally wanted to wait to film the Hadley Harbor area until fall to be respectful of the people who live there (who wants to have a drone fly over their house?). But I discovered that in waiting, I was delighted to see the fall colors. It was pure luck. As was the timing of my filming the Slocum River. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
