We are creating the infrastructure for our 40 Idaho acres from bare ground. We established "Outwest Country Living" fall of 2019. At 70 we are both still very active and determined to create a place where we can spend the rest of our life. We love our pets: 4 packgoats, 1 cat and our "boss" dog Miss Ivy plus our new lovable puppy Sassy. We enjoy many activities--mostly outdoor and hope you will join us on our journey. We agree with Wikipedia's definition of Modern Homesteading--not defined by where someone lives such as the city or the country, but by the lifestyle choices they make.
I lived in Pirece for only 3 months in 1965 as a 6th grader in a dysfunctional trouble home but having the swamps and woods all round gave me all the distractions that I needed to survive. I loved the Swamp located just feet behind the house we had rented and would break the ice and catch pollywogs. I loved crossing a small field with a stream when going to hang out in the old cemetery and was always fascinated with the court house. There was something about that town that really impacted me and I have made trips back there in 1972, 1987, 1980 and hope to visit at least one more time. On my last visit I was pleased to see many things still exactly as they were in 1965. Especially the set of awkward cement steps with plumbing pipes for rails.
I haven't done any for awhile--we're so busy now with the intricate, time consuming things like painting, and painting some more; prepping floors to get ready to lay down sheet vinyl; etc. We hope to get in before snow, but that looks less likely all the time. Trying to keep our noses to the grindstone. I plan to do an update when we're done.
We are doing good. I've been on vacation from the channel while we're finishing up the inside of the house. We hope to be in by Christmas--or New Year's at the latest. Then I need to get back to working on this channel plus I'm going to start another one. I don't want to forget how to use Davinci Resolve!
Sorry this has taken so long--been busy building our house. Probably depends on what dealer you have in your area. They all seem to be pretty reliable, but if you have a problem then it depends who you can get parts from. When we had problem with our John Deere we got parts out of Texas cheaper than anywhere else, and we're in Idaho.
@@judenrahim4839 The logger I worked for had both case 4x2,4x4 and cat 4x4.i couldn't tell much difference. Our personal hoe is a JD310 4x4. It's 30 yrs old and did cost us some money on repairs. I think it is as good as the cat or case. Before they bought the cat, they tried out a JCB 4x4 all big tires. I think I liked it best for the type fo work we did. Good luck on your purchase. What cat did you get?
We bought our 40 acres and thought about going off grid, but two reasons why we didn't: (l) we could get electricity to our place for half the cost of going off grid, (2) my husband has a BIG shop and between that and building our house and living in a snow zone AND being surrounded by trees it made better since for us. However, we'd love to have a back up which with this economy it doesn't look like we're going to be able to afford. Thanks for stopping by. She still has more pieces for sale.
This day wasn't terribly cold--as long as you didn't have to have your hands exposed. We have another deep freeze coming up next week. Most winters we have one, maybe two deep freezes at the most--this year has been an unwelcome exception. Thanks for stopping by. Blessings...
Rob's working for Finke Logging when he does this job. No one else wants to run this ancient equipment and the newer machines are out in the woods logging so...
The Telehandler belongs to a contractor friend that lives down the road. Rob does the maintenance and transports the machine and we get to use it in return when it's available. June Bug went to live with a friend. He was given to us at 3.5 years and even though we tried the tricks we knew to try and get him to stop attacking me when he was told no, it didn't work. In the winter I feed each goat in individual stalls so when (not if) he attacked me, I was going to have nowhere to go to get away from him. Really liked him, but I was tired of carrying a spray water bottle everywhere I went to make him behave.
