my question is: Why aren't imperial guard units genetically modified at least a little? they wouldn't have to be demi gods like space marines but still... WH40K seems so silly with their religious zealotry of humanity. There's no way they would be able to maintain any of their technology when they are that technophobic and would just revert to stone age shit eventually...
This is the equivalent of Cutting off both of your legs to prevent stepping on Glass. The amount of Soldiers, Regiment and even Planets lost to all kinds of enemies because there wasn't proper organisation in the Guard must be immeasurable. And it's not like it stopped entire regiments from Joining Chaos and Still combining there causing massive problems
