The sad thing is that all this work was done to partly allow additional passenger services to run between Manchester and Sheffield but there are no plans to introduce any! Capacity constraints at Stockport and Sheffield make that impossible at the moment. It will, of course, make services more reliable and reduce the delays caused by passenger trains being stuck behind slower freights but it’s a shame the full benefits will not be realised.
IF the Sheffield-Stocksbridge gets passenger service that could take a couple of TpH? Manchester can be reached via Stockport(Hazel Grove) Or the Reddish North or Hyde Routes. (Sending more from Stockport out Reddish South wont be useful as they have to cross the southbounds out of Picc, so not helpful there ? - the world doesnt have to end at Man Picc really.
Hmm, very interesting. Why is there always loads of blokes leaning on walls and standing about talking on these rail jobs? Could get rid of 2/3 of them fellas. No wonder my train tickets are so expensive.
Beautiful looking bridge! Perhaps the embankments could be more traditional - sloping earth sides. Wonderful to see modern infrastructure that is elegant, pleasing to the eye!
It was repainted many times which extended its life, the new bridge is designed to lay less time but requires no painting, shorter life for low maintenance
Just wondering why they hauled the bridge sections and the crawler through the streets when the could have just railed it in? It's your rail line so you can put it in a yard and move it in and out when you want without permits or the possibility of damaging historic buildings. It'd be quieter for the residents too.
