Welcome to The Build Phase channel. Helping you build a better turn! This channel is dedicated to the card game Vs. System 2PCG. We have game play videos, card reveals, Fight Nights, and more. If you like what we do think about supporting it at patreon.com/thebuildphase Thanks for watching!
As someone who JUST got into this game…man…I just hope people will still play online (that was my intention all along..I never intended to be a competitive player).
I see the online scene getting a boost for awhile, due to this news. And the energy in the Buckeye group has always been tier 1. I (hopefully) think that webcam play isn't going anywhere.
There's going to be at least one more in person tournament in Jan. With or without UD. Looking forward to sending the game off right at Midwinter 2025.
As long as these characters are fun to play, I'm happy. I'm not a tourney player (although this was fun to watch regardless), and I only have the Marvel characters. So hopefully those along with the new x-men characters play well together and are balanced nicely against eachother. I'm excited for all of these characters! :)
I usually enjoy the high complexity characters regardless of power level, but this convinced me to get this box to teach new players more effectively (sorry to my sister, you deserved better than playing Spiderman against Huntress). After trying it myself: I can tell it's not remotely competitive, but my opponent was 20 life up and I chained Crit Bash into Rage into 5 die basic, and watching the panic as their sure win was now looking tenuous was priceless. I still lost that game as I was still at 10 and I wiffed my defence, but wild moments like that can really get a game like Dice Throne to stick with you.
Thanks for sharing that story. I love hearing about wild DT games with huge big swings. You're absolutely right about these big moments that make people go "oooh!" being the magic that keeps us coming back to DT.
Been waiting for another review, thank you for taking the time to make these videos! I tend to agree regarding playstyle (she's not for me), but I can definitely see how the right player could be very competitive with her! Keep up the fantastic work!
No. The Shadow effect doens't go away when it blocks dmg and it only blocks atk dmg. So Nanites won't be stopped by Shadows and also won't cause the Shadows to clear.
@@TheBuildPhase I used to watch friends play it back when I was a kid in the early 2000s and I always though it looked awesome, but I was playing Yugioh back then now I play Digimon and Vs lol
I've been binging since I discovered your channel. These have been crucial as a very new player to the dice throne scene. Each video is clear and well taught! Thank you Mr Ben!
I agree with all of your points, but I will say that just as quickly as Vs2PCG went online only, it could go back to using distributors. (I don't think that it will). My pet theory is UDE launches some kind of next VS 3, as a new TCG probably. They could totally continue 2pcg if they do that. I don't know if they would, but they certainly could. That could be the best case scenario for 2pcg fans. We get to keep buying our LCG style cards from the upper deck store, and Upper deck makes enough on a new TCG to keep all the licenses funded. They're going to convince me to get into another TCG probably. I'm cautiously optimistic for the future.
I just bought this set now and just saw your video, I am kinda dissapointed because I did not saw your point of view before I bought it and already cards got banned 😢
Well, cards are only banned in the one format. There's lots of places where you can still get wild with the Hunger Virus. Kitchen table never bans anything unless you want it to. And formats outside of Incursion will still allow them. So the set isn't unplayable, but it's so strong it's not very surprising some of those cards got touched by Incursion bans very quickly.
What a great idea! I've taken to customizing some of the tokens of my favorite heroes (metal 'Pirates of the Caribbean-style' coins instead of doubloons, a miniature metal Mjolnir for Thor, etc.). I'm always looking for new ways to make it even MORE special!
What do you think in general of the Marvel heroes compared to these original 14/16, in terms of fun level? (I can probably get one battle chest but I don't know which one to go for :P The Marvel IP isn't really a positive or negative for me.)
If the Marvel coat of paint isn't a selling point for you, then I'd encourage you to look at the mechanics. Find the set that has heroes that speak to you. Now, if you're new to DT, in my opinion, starting with Season 1 is a solid pick. You have a very well rounded box with heroes that do just about all the different types of things you can do. Overall the complexity is a bit lower than some of the other chests... But there are still very complicated heroes for the folks in your playgroup who enjoy that. #ShadowThief Season 2 takes the art to another level, in my opinion. It also introduces heroes with companions and other unique mechanics. Some of my favorites are in this box. Cursed Pirate might be the coolest design in the whole game. Both Marvel boxes (Xmen isn't out yet) offer familer Marvel heroes with that DT gameplay. I think there's a lot to love in here. Black Widow is easily in my top 5 favorite in the whole game. However... You asked for which ONE I'd recommend. I think that the first season continues to be the best on ramp for new players. But I want to qualify that a bit. Every chest has great gameplay and wonderful art. Your playstyle will have a lot of impact on which of these sets you like the most. For example, if you love the idea of going into battle with your cat, maybe Huntress will be your favorite based on the theme. So, in that case, I'd say start with Season 2. There's no wrong order to pick up the battle chests. They are all great value for the cost. And while I do tend to nudge people toward S1 as the best place to start, if you look over the options and the heroes in Marvel or s2 look more fun, then go with that box. Let me know what you choose!
@lystic9392 if you aren't already there, maybe check out the DT discord. Lots of folks with strong opinions of the heroes. Might be useful to inform you choice. Though... The truth is... Eventually you want all of 'em. It's just so good.
I think they also designed the low drops with super powers for the Super Super format, and just poorly timed on release. I really hope this format gets used again in the future, with some better anti Max tech.
"Don't go chasin' 6's Yall - please stick to the 1s and 2s & 3s that you're used to - I know that you're gunna have it your way or nothing at all - but I think you're rolling too bad"
Great commentary as always. Really enjoyed the banter of a guest analyst as well. Thanks for hosting these. It was a fun season. (On a side note, I could have picked juggernaut as a camp for the third game. I found it ironic you brought it up that camp selection as I watched the matches)
Very good video! Thanks for explaining the character, now I am thinking about buying him and paladin! I just want to ask you - will there be analysis of the Seraph? I really like the character as the concept but it also seems very weak and hard to play properly. I know she is one of the weakest characters in tournaments because of RNG in flight and blind status effects. I would just love to see your opinion on her and your playstyle. I dont know if you are familiar with the character since you are not really mentioning her while comparing to other heroes but still would love to see review of the Seraph!
Yes. All the heroes will be made. Huntress is already scripted. And I'm leaning toward Paladin after, which would finish off season 1. But for sure next one being filmed in Huntress.
I can't pretend to know why UD makes some of the choices they make. I hope it's because of factors I can't see and they are actually making good calls. But some days it is hard to hold onto that. Regardless. I'm going to take what cards I can get for this game as long as they keep making them. Danny and Ben have my loyalty, even if UD sometimes makes me wonder what they are thinking.
So... a kinda roguelike with a skin from "the boys" Altough I love the boys and agree with the criticism, I also believe thiz could be grat for friends who are more casual regarding board games or the boys. Gonna get it.
It's tough. On the one hand, I really wanted it to FEEL like The Boys world. And it's just not that. But it is a fairly easy game to pick and play with friends and just laugh at the art and names. I just feel like the source material deserved a little better treatment. There is a good story in there, shame it didn't make it into the game. Still, if it's a good fit for your group, that's awesome to hear. I like helping people make informed purchases.
