Ugh yeah, I feel this. I've been told to smile so much in my life, yet gotten weird comments when I do because I struggle to smile naturally when asked.

If you want someone to smile for a picture and they can't get their face to do it, just smile at them from behind the camera, then they'll involuntarily do it with you. I learned this because I'm autistic and have a hard time smiling for photos
