I was totally into that DC punk scene at the time but I had no idea how special and seminal it was. I just knew it was more fun than discos and coverbands
A lot of the DC punks were kids from broken families and serious alcohol abusers. I saw the whole scene develop from the first Teen Idle shows at DC space, 930 and the wilson center. At the time, we made fun of the straight edge punks, but as an adult I realize how much more mature they were than the rest of us. Lots of the punks never made it to 30.

First I ever came across that word was, strangely enough, in 1984 when the UK prog band Marillion released an album - their second - titled 'Fugazi'.
