Thank you for this video! I just figured out why my son (4 year old) is so different than the other kids in his preschool. He prefers the teachers only and says 'he doesn't like kids'. But also feels lonely during school. I know now how to help him as he gets older.

Hello Todd, this is great, I have been intensely interested in this topic, as a teacher for a decade. I think it sits at the heart of many students failures, and goes totally unrecognised a a hidden disability.

I enjoyed this video, Todd. You brought up some valid points. In particular, using a rubric as an informal assessment. I am leaving this comment because I actually did this TODAY! I collected a sample of my students' writing as a pre-assessment. I then used a rubric I created for the summative assessment as merely feedback. I removed the points and grade value, but left the criteria on it. My intention is for the kids to use it to set future goals. I liked when you said the "ultimate determination" for a strong rubric is if the students are able to utilize it by gaining insight for improvements. 100% agree!

Looking forward to your next video. Much of this hit home with the situation I'm in with my son. He reminds me of that line from the movie Office Space. "It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care." It's hard to be motivated to do something that bores you to death.

Couldn't agree more. Sounds like you son would benefit highly from project-based learning. There are experiential schools that specialize in this. Not sure what part of Pennsylvania you are in but here is an example of one such school www.abingtonfriends.net/academics/center-experiential-learning/

@@thegiftedguy3374 We are on the western side of the state about 10 miles from the Ohio line...so they wouldn't be a realistic option, unfortunately. But I'll reach out to them. Maybe they can point me to a similar school in my area. Thank you so much.
