Hi, my name is Ira. I’m a Canadian fiber artist, pattern designer, and author. I grew up needlecrafting with my mom and grandma, and my childhood was filled with fabrics and yarns. I enjoy sharing my passion for fiber art through my quilting, knitting, and crochet patterns inspired by animals and nature. My happy place is where fabric and yarn meet fun!
You just showed three of my favourite things: spinning, lace knitting and soft, airy, home made shawls! I’m working myself through an alpaca blanket myself: pulling out the guard hairs, prepping the fibre… and as soon as I’m done spinning the lace weight yarn I’m currently working up, that alpaca is going to be spun… can’t wait. 😍
I bought the book and all the yarn and I'm so confuse. I made the pices and cried that they didn't look like they way they were meant to be. I was hoping for us that paid for the book you had a basice how to do. I'm not a beginner but I feel like one now. They look so cute.
Hi Susan, there are special sts and techniques described at the end of the book…everything that was used for making. If you have any additional questions, you can always email them to me at ira@irarott.com
Ah Ha! So that's the name of this. Try turning the work 1st, then inserting the hook into the 2-loops on the side. They "protrude" making it easier to insert the hook into the "correct" loops. They are easier to see. Thanks for the name!
@IraRott, what is your experience with this type of yarn? I made a teapot cozy with it. I hand washed it once. Now it has these these "wormy" loops that are extruding a bit. I did not crochet the cozy tightly because I wanted drape for the fabric and air in the pile of the yarn strands for better insulation. It looks like you crocheted this item pretty tightly so perhaps it would do better after a wash... Edited for clarity.
@@IraRottDesigns I did try this over the weekend - I found it was very hard to stitch into afterwards - once I got it, it looked great but when I attempted to also put a border on the other side, it was also super tight to get into. I felt that I had crocheted it rather loosely - but it was still a struggled. Is that normal? Thank you so much for taking the time to answer. I appreciate it greatly!
These parents are exclusive to the book, but you can buy it online as an ebook if you do not want paperback. Check out Barns and Nobles, Indigo / Chapters, or Amazon.
