Hi and welcome to my channel Explore sand to summit.
This channel is all about my camper van build, converting and camper van related items. How to videos and generally to give you inspiration on your conversion.
My van was brought for use as a day van for my dogs but as you will see I got a bit carried away!
This will also include places we visit in our van conversion
Hi I sleep from the back to the front of the van, I’m 6ft, the width is the same width as the ceiling, and the extra side pieces makes it the full with of the van at the widest part.
Sir, I have NO IDEA what I'm talking about But redirecting heat back to the unit Seems DANGEROUS Or at least bad for the unit But maybe it's just heating the water more efficiently. I'll say a prayer forya just in case But I'm the world's worst Christian So don't expect any Divine Intervention If that tank blows.🤪😜😘✝️
I done lots of testing with a inferred thermometer to make sure the heat comes out rather than back in. The heat Shield is angled to move the heat outward. The door should be held open. Thanks for your comment 👍
Hi nice video! Just to understand well. You have took the f45s in 3m long and the fiamma adapter kit for Volkswagen t5 right? And behind the rail is not stuck to the chassis right? Because i have tried the same but behind the rail is in the air because of the form of the roof that is not straight right? Thank you!
@@eldon9278 Hi, the awning is a Fiamma f45s 3250mm long, the mounting kit is the Fiamma SKU 18150 3 bracket, I got them from ‘Everything Fiamma’. The rear end just floats slightly in the air, i used supports like you get on washing machine feet so they adjust to support the end. You don’t notice them from the ground. Hope that makes sense. 👍
Your attention to detail through the build is fantastic. I’ve just got a new lwb crafter and will be using many of your ideas, thanks for taking the time to post your journey. I’ve noticed in your later videos that you have added deadlocks to your doors. If you don’t mind me asking, Who did you use and what roughly was the price?
Hi, thank you, the locks cost about £500 for all the doors. There hook locks so really secure. I’m in Essex so it was a local lock fitter who specialises on van locks. I’ll be doing a video on them soon.
@PhilCole-i9u I got a peddle lock as well, I’ll be featuring that in the same video soon. Any questions about anything I’ve done on the van just ask, good luck with yours.
@@exploresandtosummit thanks, you’ve already saved me hours on endless internet trawling looking for ideas. Security is definitely on my mind, I had to get a AWD Crafter for my needs and I didn’t get anywhere near the great deal you got on your van. The cost these days is eye watering for a new one and the last thing any of want is someone helping themselves to it or the contents.
Just discovered the channel, l have the same van but low roof version so it's been great for me, you have some great ideas, as a joiner l can really appreciate your attention to detail and finish, excellent work and equally well filmed and explained, looking forward to future episodes
Hi, thanks a lot. I’ve got more videos very soon, just editing a few now, going to change a few things over the winter, you being a joiner will have a big advantage, 👍
@@nursecoholics685 hi, this was a while ago now so the prices may of changed, and depends on times, how many people etc, go on the durdle door holiday park website for the latest price
Really enjoying all your videos. May I ask you, how did you secure the two 15mm ply centre divider pieces in place? I'm referring to the 2 pieces that have the tracks for the bed runners on. I'd like to do something similar and want to ensure they can hold the full weight of the bed. Thank you.
Hi, thanks for watching. I fixed them with flat metal plates screwed to the edge of the ply and then screwed to the van body. The bottom is stronger when the seating and the the units was installed. The top I used the same method using metal brackets, there all hidden once the wall panels and ceiling panels are fitted, hope that makes sense.
@@exploresandtosummit thanks so much for the detailed reply. Yes makes perfect sense. I was thinking I’d use metal plates to secure to the bodywork too.
hi great vid, does a 3m length of the 41 x 21 cut into 2 and fit across as the cross bars? or do i need 2m lengths to give me a slight over hang like yours? thanks i have the same van . cheers
Hi I cut the 3m length in half. It’s enough to span the main bars. Mine is slightly off to one side as the awning is bolted to the right rail. If you want more overhang each side then you will need then longer. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching and the question.
I'm considering building a bed lift system in my apartment to be able to use the space better. Do you see any reasons why this would be a bad idea considering this system is primarily meant for motorhomes?
Hi, I’ve actually seen this done, I came across a photo on Google when I was researching the bed lift. It seemed to work really well. So yes good idea to make use of space.
@@exploresandtosummit thanks for that! Now just trying to find somewhere to buy it, so far only finding the UK shop you listed but the import tax into Europe is painful.
Lippit is a Italian company so I’m sure there all over Europe, maybe send them a email asking for the distributor in your country. Just out of interest, where are you?
@@exploresandtosummit Sweden :) They seem to direct to use a distributor called Reimo, which is indeed all over Europe but don't sell directly to customers in Sweden. So I will have to call a local reseller and ask if they can order it. I doubt the price will be any good though after reimo and local reseller...
Hi, me again! Would you mind telling me the depth of the bench seats? i.e from the wall to the front of the seat. The proportions look good to my eye. I’m guessing the back cushions are about 100mm.
Just binge watched all your videos, fantastic build. What size is the bed frame? I am planning on making the jump from a T6 to a Crafter and debating if an MWB is big enough.
Thanks, still lots more to come and some alterations. The bed is 6ft long x the with of the ceiling. I can measure properly if you need the size. I had a T6 and went bigger to the crafter. I find the MWB great as it easy to drive and park, and I use it as a day van, I don’t think id use the LWB as much. Also I don’t have to be careful on weight as I would with a LWB. Hope that helps.
Hi, no problem at all, check out some of the other comments on this video, I’ve answered them with the part number, I’m away at the moment and don’t have the info with me.
Hi. Again thanks for showing this build. I see you quoted £500 for the foam supply. Can you give some idea of the cost of the upholstery and materials used? Did GB Foam provide the covers? Thanks
@@digb1 it’s was a good price considering the mattress, seats , seat backs and the extra foam for the bed. It’s got zips and he also fitted them with 6mm foam wrapped around to make sure they was a tight fit.
Thanks for the videos i pick my lwb crafter up in a weeks time so finding your skills very useful. Dont suppose your local to Stockport are you? Just incase i can hire you when im stuck 😂😂
just thinking the two things that will give you peace of mind on my t6.1 fitted ghost 11 to code it to steering wheel and van guardian great peace of mind
Hi. It looks to me you have installed the tracks at the short side of the bed and I can see your lift works perfectly. The Lippert instructions say to install on the long side of the bed. I’m guessing this isn’t an issue? Any advice appreciated.
Installing them on the long side wouldn’t work for me as the van sides are angled, you need a straight wall for the tracks. I’ve been using it a lot and had not issues.
@@exploresandtosummitThanks pretty much what I thought. I also have a Crafter and was thinking along the same lines with the curved sides. I guess they might have stipulated using the long side for the tracks in case the straps were too short. Can I ask you what width and length you used for the bed frame to suit the Crafter?
@digb1 I can measure it properly later. But what I did is measure the width of the roof at the highest point and measured myself so I knew I could fit the bed in length which was 6ft
@@exploresandtosummitThanks is for your reply. Just a couple of more questions! Did you use birch or poplar ply for the bed frame and what is the depth of the frame to clear the motor? Thanks
@@user-iz1ns4jj3h The f80 sits flat on the roof rails taking up more space, where the f45 is upright so I could move it out further giving me more space on the roof rack, because sometimes I carry two kayaks side by side.
Ive been looking at this combo for my van but Elites are currently sold out of the wheels. Has your insurance company increased your premium or did it stay the same?
Hiya I finally bought the awning, got it from the same place as you, I’ve not put the brackets together yet but I was wondering how you bolted the brackets to the unistrut did you use bolts supplied or did you use bolts and unistrut nuts if you have any pics that would be a big help, hope you are enjoying the bank holiday weekend
Hi I drilled two holes for two bolts into the base of the brackets, then bolted through to the unistrut using unistrut nuts, ( the rectangle ones that lock into the unistrut channel. Hope that makes sense
Thank you for the Videos I am away camping on my own at the moment and spent most of the day from eps 1 to now keep them coming. Going to buy a van next year and doing a conversion.
Absolulty stunning. Well done to The National trust for its preservation. This is how things looks when we build inline with nature.❤❤❤❤❤. Brings a tear to my eye.
If you don't mind me asking, how much was this base van approximately? Sounds like you may have bought this brand spanking new from VW? I've seen some decent looking second hand ones for as little as £15000...
I got it new from VW, it was a cancelled order, the company paid a £10k deposit and walked away at the last minute, maybe the company folded or something, it was the last week of Feb 23 so they needed the van sold hence why it’s a 72 plate not a 23. It’s a high spec with the 177hp twin turbo engine and load of extras. I paid £40k
Ideas evolve as you do a job I find and the first time isn’t always what you’re happy with. I’ve done this a few times and changed things up to get the result I want 👍🏻.
Im finding this as Im using the van, I'll probably use it a lot this summer, then alter things over the winter. Thanks for watching and commenting. Im liking your latest video on your shower set up. Take a look anyone who's reading this.
@@exploresandtosummit I’ll probably be the same when we start using it which will be very soon I hope. I found when I built my truck setup things needed altering but that’s how it goes when your doing things to suit your needs. Thanks hoping it will work as I think it will 🤞.
Hi, I've just installed my unistrut from your instructions, thanks. Just wondered what F45s clamps you ordered to attach to the instruct and also what width awning you went for? I've got a medium wheel base Sprinter, which I think is about the same size as the Crafter. Cheers.
I was told by Fiamma the mwb vw and the sprinter are the same size. I ordered the Fiamma f45 multi kit sku18150 3 bracket. And the awning Fiamma 325 black case. 325 meaning 3250mm long. Hope that helps.
Thank you, got the boxes from Amazon, there really good quality with thick plastic so they take a bit of abuse, just realised I didn’t list everything in the description, I’ll do that later. There camera flight cases. Thanks for watching, I should have the next video ready at the end of the week.
