Greetings fom Monterrey, México! I just want him to know I have some Kiyomizu ware pieces and I´m also tyring to spread a little piece of "yakimono" knowledge here. Thankyou for keeping art alive Master.
I have seen it called this in numerous subtitles on ceramic videos from Japan, so it must be the standard word translation instead of bisque? I like it, haha
The first firing to harden the clay is called Biscuit Firing , among any professionals . Because after this firing , the ceramic is extremely brittle and can easily break like a biscuit (which is NOT a cookie) and has the same feel when you touch it . And Ad Hoc "Bisque" is a fish or crustacean soup and has NOTHING to do with pottery .
