Good to see you back. I'll take a look at the website. I see your XK has done exactly what mine di and let go of its headlining! Like you, I still love mine and can't think of any reason to get rid, even after nearly 7 years with it.
Strangely enough I looked at your channel just yesterday and wondered how you were getting on. Glad to see you're back, even if it's just checking in to prove you're still alive!
This or XJR x350? Im stuck on that.... The XK and XJR seem to be the same price ...... What are your thoughts? I love both, but i would have to go for a convertible XK because i would feel claustrophobic in the coupe. I also love the classic styling of the X350
Personally, I'd go for the coupe over convertible as it's one less thing to go wrong! I would say it depends on your use case. As a daily driver, the XJ is going to be a lot more practical (and a lot more economical if you go for one of the 2.7 TDV6 cars) whereas the XK is much more fun as a weekend toy or long-distance GT.
Spotted you on Saturday going over Chetwynd Bridge... I was the cyclist who gave you a thumbs up (if you noticed!). Knew I recognised the car and reg from somewhere!
I'm must say I just bought a 4.2 xkr and I know what you mean I love it. It put a smile on my face😊 I've owned a lot of Jags other the year's But I must say the xkr it so good love it 👍
Some incorrect info in the top/flop 5. Tyres are front/rear 245/275 (19 inch), or 255/285 (20 inch), not 285 in front 305 in rear, no way. It’s a 300hp engine, not 310. If the battery dies there are is a manual key hole behind the rear numberplate + there is a manual insert in center arm rest for the key to start it up. Off course the rest is all opinion based, which I appreciate, realise that this is subjective. In my experience for example it does not eat tires, reliability is good, and you can get up to 37 mpg (7.5l/100) on the highway. Lastly practicality is great for the segment. More practical than a v8 vantage or 911 or sl500, maybe even better than 6 series.
I have a 2009 XKR Portfolio. Of the 250+ cars I've owned over the last 40 years it's in the top 3. The beauty, supercharger, interior, joy of driving make it a blast to own. I can't count the number of complements I've received.
Thx for the video! Subscribed. As mentioned above: boot access possible with flat battery by removing number plate and using physical key hiding in your fob. Thx above for other comment pointing to two places to electrically activate the car for entry to the boot! But, the main point of my comment is infotainment. I read on another forum about using the Ipod connector in the arm rest console as a bluetooth device. Procured a Bovee bluetooth adapter and a cable to fit into the Ipod socket, and this allows my smartphone (with all its Apps like Spotify) to be fully connected to the fantastic Bowers&Wilkens system on my 5.0 XKR 2011! In the process, I rather use Google Maps on my phone being connected to the car's speakers for navigation, music and phone calls. Finally, having the 6-CD changer does provide a nostalgic outlet for listening to my CD collection from time to time! Great sound! My only negative, apart from the thirstiness, after nearly 3 years is how soft the aluminium rims are when negotiating the potholes here in South Africa! But, on the flip side, the rims can easily be repaired because of their pliability...enjoy yours if you have one, if not, get one!
Did you really say single digits on the gas if you use the loud pedal too much and only 20mpg on the highway?? Might be something wrong with your car. My 2010xk did easily 27mpg at 80mph on the highway and now I have a tuned, upper pulley change, 2015 XKR thats just over 600bhp and it gets 14 in the city and 25 on the highway doing 80mph average also. All those figures are normal driving but still cant imagine it only getting single digits even if it was floored all day long...JustSaying Ps; Nice car, you have style obviously 😊
Glad to see another video. These cars are worth all the niggles. Get a small toolkit and keep on top of things. By all means use garages for things out with your comfort zone but most things are just basic car maintenance. Really enjoy the videos, keep them coming
Glad to see that you kept the car. Suspension bushes are normal on any car of this age. I have some new rear bottom arms on order which i will do myself. I don't think you needed new calipers, they obviously ripped you off. You can buy those retaining clips
Glad you decided to keep it, even after the run of bad luck. I've had mine 6 years now and I still don't want to part with it. The best car I have ever owned. Luckily I have a great local Jaguar specialist to take care of the inevitable repair work and they are always very fair about what needs doing and the pricing.
Sorry to hear you've had a stint of bad luck recently. On the bright side, with the MOT and suspension work now done, hopefully you can enjoy some faff-free motoring. Plus the Spring is just around the corner. Nice to see another young person taking ownership of an XK 👍For me, I SORN my XK over Winter. Then when it comes to Spring, it feels like I've just bought the car again and it reminds me how special it is- makes all these maintenance niggles worth the bother!
Find yourself a good local Jaguar specialist and take it there even if you need to book in and wait for an appointment. They’ll know what is wrong straight away and they know where to get the best parts from too. They are busy and therefore don’t rip you off.
I have a covertible XK,2007 with 50k miles. Ive had most of the same problems you mention, and had them all fixed,. Its not cheap, but look at the car.... surely nobody would expect it to be cheap. Practical?? Depends on your personal need. I dont need to carry big things in it, unless I pick one up in the local pub, so its fine. Actually spacious in the front with big wide opening doors. I take a large german shepherd in it on the front seat. Ive had the water dripping into the foot well. Its a blocked drain on the aircon drainage pipe. What was the fix you had for this? It can be horrendous if they want to replace the drain tube. My local garage fitted an alternative drain pipe to the overflow container, reaching it through the side of the dashboard, without having to remove it. Otherwise its a huge job. Ive had all brake pipes renewed and disks etc. Now I think its time to sell it as Im so old I can hardly get out its so low. But, its a fabulous thing. The worst part is the road tax, as I only do about 1000 miles a year. Glad youre enjoying yours
Very entertaining video! I have a 2011 XK n.a. convert. I love it. Back seats.....have to think of them as accessible boot space..in which case they are GREAT to have. For me having an F type with no space in the back would be a big problem. ( I've had people back there in short emergencies...or one person sitting across both seats...but yes...those seats, like almost ANY GT sports car, is not for actual humans.) Looks: They are absolutely beautiful. Apparently sexy to gals too. A gal I know said she wants to straddle it and ride the hood...says it all....lol!
I inherited an 06 XK a couple of months ago. Found it quite dull at first but as it’s got colder outside found myself using it more for the auto, heated seats and comfort . I’ve started to really like it although not enough to keep They do look good in an old man’s car kind of way , very comfortable , handle far better than I’d have thought and I do love the wafty delivery of the engine Far too quiet as standard I wish it had some v8 noise to hear, not particularly quick you can tell it’s quite heavy with not much power in this guise Perfect daily if you can fuel it and I’d imagine perfect as a convertible It’s surprised me enough to consider the XKR or 5 litre one
Thanks for the plus and negatives of owning the Jaguar xk. I've been wanting to buy one for quite some time now, but the anxiety of the running and maintenance costs has put me off. Your joy of owning one has made me question my indecision to go buy my dream car.
I had a 2010 XK and now a 2015 XKR, and between the two, I had to change a radiator, that's it (and my loud pedal is loud more times than not). And parts for it aren't any worse than for any other exotic, and if anything, a tad less. If you'd buy say a used BMW or Audi, you shouldn't let this one scare you. Of course you want to find one that's been treated right and have a PPI done...Justmy2cents
Bought a 2007 XKR in February. Bloody love it. And ive never owned a car that gets so many compliments from complete strangers! Had no issues so far. Not the cheapest car to own but i knew that before i bought it. I'll hang on to it for as long as i can.
Nice video. I've had my 2007 XK for 6 years now and I still love it. That sound never gets boring! I use it as my daily and just can't think of a good reason to change it.
I have a 5 litre Artisan Special. I am absolutely with you on the engine sound, the performance, the looks and handling. The Artisan special interior has beautiful leather trim. My dislikes are the awful sat nav, which has led me to carry a cheap one that actually works. Amazingly on long Continental trips I get 25mpg, so not too bad. My real dislike is the 20 inch wheels with 35 section front and 30 section rear tyres. On potholed UK roads they are just too low profile, and I have had to replace two due to road damage. I have another car and mostly use the Jaguar for Continental driving on far better roads.
I love your video! Nice and chill as you drive and enjoy your Jag! I just bought a beautiful 2011 XK and seen your video made me smile ! Now subscribed . Cheers 👊🏻
Last year I was after a 2+2 GT and I looked at a 4.2 X150, and I was sorely tempted by it as they are very pretty cars, and yes if you're not going for a classic British Racing Green, then the frost-blue is a lovely colour. One thing that does really help it in terms of price/running costs is that the 4.2 V8 has been around for a long time, so isn't subject to the dealer-tax or require an eye-wateringly expensive specialist; it's "just" an old Jag engine and "just" a ZF slush-box, so you can keep servicing costs down a little compared to high-end halo brands like Aston and Bentley. To be fair the infotainment system; ALL early 00's systems are hilariously bad by today's standard, it's one of those you either enjoy as a quirk of the car or swap out for a modern replacement unit. I did wince when you mentioned other cars as I did end up buying an '08 650i BMW, because I've always like the looks, bangle-butt and all (sorry, not sorry) and also it is way more practical including isofix points so I can take my young nieces places. The other reason was budget; I could only get into a cheap X150 and so was worried about buying something that might turn into a lemon, whereas the 6-Series was a car I wanted and could get into the higher end of it's pricing so could get a well-kept example. It also does a significant more to the gallon... Had my budget been £2-3k more, then chances are I would have gone for one, but I wasn't prepared to blow my budget, financial responsibility and all that nonsense. However, the X150 is lovely and is probably top of the list for eventual replacements (Turns out, 2+2 V8 GTs are a thing I like very much!).
Electrical problems are usually associated with the battery which should be replaced every 4 or 5 years to keep things in tip top condition but it's the same for any modern car with lots of electronics. The batteries are not expensive. If your battery fails and you need to access the boot, there are three ways of doing this: (1) use the key behind the rear number plate; (2) there's a positive terminal, under a rubber cover, in the wheel arch, behind the rear n/s wheel - just connect this and part of the suspension to a jump starter or battery and the car comes to life. Alternatively, (3) open the bonnet and open the nearside fuse compartment. There is a positive terminal pin in the centre and just connect a battery to this and all the electronics switch on and you can open the boot. Tyres - fit Michelin Pilot Sports - you will get a far better ride and they will last longer - also, learn to corner on a 'railway curve' - like a racing driver - to reduce tyre wear and keep the pressures up. I got 30,000 miles out of my last set. Also upstep the side-wall ratios - i.e. swap the 255/35R20 for 265/35R20 or 255/40R20 and the backs to a 295/35R20. This fills the wheel arches and gives a smoother ride. You can upgrade the infotainment unit to Apple CarPlay - but it's expensive.
I love my XK for all the same reasons. Mine also has 305 tires at the rear, however, it's because I upgraded the wheels. Originally they were 275. Enjoy!
Aluminium doesn't rust but it does oxidise. Water in the footwell is a common issue, usually it's the duck bill drain. You can also get water ingress from the rear quarter. The heat shields can happen, and often does, to any car. Fuel should be expected and any 2+2 GT car has zero room in the back. I've owned 2 different Jags, an early XF 3.0ltr petrol V6 premium luxury and an X351 XJ 3.0ltr supercharged portfolio and they've never failed to start. The gearbox did break on the XF but that's a ZF problem not a Jaguar problem. I do like the XK and the 4.2 is the sweetspot for Jaguar V8s but i think I'd want the R. Good vid.
Fuel economy, I’ve seen between 7 and 24 mpg. Track day to motorway. My 2 litre turbo modern daily doesn’t do much more. I’ve owned a diesel that did about 47 to the gallon but never again.
Jaguars are like beautiful mistresses. Never come cheap. 😀 Old Volvos and Toyotas are reliable but boring. It's always about where your preferences are.
