soo quick question :) you have already made mining and placing mecanics for wood but will you impoment a way you can mine and custemize the terain yourself and if so am just realy confused how thats gonna work? i mean how you will collect and place stuff like dirt and stone of course if your making a way to brake and pick up stone + dirt :D edit: if you dont understand i meen like in minecraft thats simple becues its made out of cubes but how will you place non block materials?? hope you understand:)
You're tooooooo fast and I don't know how everyone follow your guide at this speed?!?!?!??!?!? I even put the speed to 0.5x and you're still tooooo fast to follow.
hi, amazing work already ! I can't wait to see the rest of the devlog, I was wondering if you are using the paid version of the voxel plugin or the free one ? thanks in advance !
So inspirating Thanks a lot for sharing your journey. If I could say something to help you make better terrain visual, you should change the ground texture based on the slope of the terrain instead of his height (like cliff do in real life) And I think it could be good if there is random terrain color variation as yellow grass, like you did for the shore but the grass.
I agree! Should definitely put more time into the colors for the terrain🤔 Thanks! Terrain will probably be under development for a long time, so these kinds of changes are very possible in the future:)
i have concluded that i am masochist, even though blueprints are way easier than c++ i still use c++ for only one reason, i have over 6+ years of experience with c++, and i just dont want it to go to waste 🤣. cool video btw, love when i see fellow unreal engine devs, keep up the good work.
I´m new here, nice video, I just think that the name being terra is a bit of a weak name, there's nothing unique about it and there exist already some games with that name, if it were me I'd try to use two words, or if I kept just one it would be an invented word, but thats just me, keep up the good work
I think it would be awesome if Ask would have a face like that 0:46 (this look would be great for an idle animation, the character thinks what to do next) with animations and different expressions. Expressions would add mor personality and soul to the game. Also, it would be better if Ask would not be alone ... he could have a girlfriend. The player could be able to switch between them. For example Ask goes in the north to collect apples, she goes to the west to find some eggs. The player could play the game that both didn't see each others for days, weeks or even months. lol
Two things, first (this is my opinion) not sure if its already implemented but i prefer first person survival games - more immersive or at least a way to switch between the two. Second (im not a programmer so im not sure what is called, you may already have this too) i believe there is a way to make more realistic generation by layering a more complex noise map over a less complex one (like 3 layers), i think the old minecraft generation used something similar.
Cool, thanks! I can release a test build at some point to let more people test the movement. Might be good to increase the Gravity strength a bit, yeah 👍
Did you have to set perimeters for your objects , such as reeds… to spawn only on the coast line. How do your items match the noise generation.. I would like to add reeds to a procedural world. But like only where land meets water do you have any experience to this?
As long as you have a value for where this happens, such as an Alpha lerp or noise value, then you can use that to check whether or not to spawn the reeds:)
Yep! Will do, the Voxel Plugin doesn't support transparent materials on their surfaces at the moment but as soon as this this fixed I'll make it transparent and add some extra "water" stuff
Definitely find an engine you are comfortable with and just start making alot of concepts! Try to make games that cover a lot of different aspects of game development. This way you learn a lot about your tool while also making interesting new games!
Hi there! I've been following along for a while, and this is looking fantastic! Better and better each time. I sent you an email a while back and just sent a followup today. Hope we can talk soon!
I LOVE THIS!!! <3 your such an amazing youtuber and i love your game, humer, editing, personality + more! am looking forward to se this game done. and i feel like this game will be a massive sucsess. I love that you are keep working on your dream and you never stop evolving:) keep working hard!
this is such a wonderful project! excited for the next changes in the future, such as biomes and beaches! if you ever start working on mobs, might I suggest that they don't spawn randomly and wonder around aimlessly, but spawn in herds, sorta like how your clusters work! then, nearby mobs of the same kind would move together across the map like boids, whereas other predator mobs could hunt solo and break apart the herd!
@@emilwalseth not sure if you've ever played Equilinox, but something like that game's implementation could be pretty sick! ie. families with different genetics, which makes different families have different qualities, like sheep having red or pink wool, or maybe some creatures walk faster but eat slower, etc.
nice changes brother , one thing tho , i think lighting could change the apperance really greatly and make it more realistic , you could add some fog , also some moon light , and sun rise and sun set , good luck on your game dev journey :) edit : i just saw a comment telling you about the lighting XD
This environment update took about 4 weeks, but in total, all of it, probably 7-8 months(keep in mind this is also while working a 9-5 so could probably be done a lot faster😂)
@@emilwalseth Sorry I am curious, but what is your main job? If not a secret. ( My main job is also with computer, but I struggle to spend rest of the evening/weekends with more screen time (to develop a game as hobby) Thanks for great video! )
What I think would really add to this is some sort of continentality. Large scale formations of land and oceans. That'd make it look a lot more natural and also make more easily recognizable and interesting shaped and places. Also adding some more brown might be good! Not every bit of ground is covered in grass, there's dirt everywhere. And it might help shift the color scheme a bit, as it's getting a bit blue-y with all the cool greens. That said, it already is looking great!
Yeah I totally agree, it's way too green now😂 I'll have to find a way to add some different color variations, not only along the shoreline. Other biomes will definitely help a lot with the colors tho:)
