I've just been getting into the correspondents, knowing the emotions and stories behind so much of the music, its crazy how this channel shows the life of these two men. Chucks sounds like the kind of person I'd like others to see me as, it makes me happy to know people like him have, and continue to exist
This is my new current favorite song, and even tho I found it very late I hope this guy had a very successful career because this song is amazing and he deserves it.
A lot of people are talking about how this song is sad or how it's about the futility and meaningless of life, but I don't really agree. It's not happy, but it's not inherently sad either. It certainly doesn't say that life is futile or meaningless as far as I'm concerned. (Unless you think you need to be omnipotent or there's no point to life. Or if you think God is the only source of meaning in life.) Whether it's sad or not depends on what happens next, really. And, to me, that's reflected in the music. It's got parts that are upbeat and parts that aren't, but the entire piece still has a strong sense of motion to it. Whether this realization is happy or sad, it's not a reason to lie down and let death take you. To me, this song is about the narrator realizing that his power is limited, and that the expectation that a magical or divine solution will bail you out of any problem is, in the end, a comforting dream that stops you from being fully alive and in the present. By accepting that some situations will be outside of his control (he couldn't stop the bullies in that moment, he couldn't cure his best friend, he can't change the past, and he can't avoid his own eventual end) he can better focus on the things he truly can do. By recognizing that he was previously living in his dreams he can start living in the now and finding out where to go. If you view this as the end of the story, of course it'd be sad, because it's just talking about realizing that up until this point he was so busy with things he can't control that he wasn't really living. But if you think about the fact that he's still alive and now knows what was holding him back, it can be a much more hopeful song. As far as I'm concerned, this song is only as sad as you make it. (Well, maybe slightly sadder than you make it, considering it does deal with death twice and bullying once)
I come back for the sick beat, but stay for the attractive nerd ❤🔥 Reading the comments, I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who thinks he’s a fine piece of ace! 😂
To me, this song is about the passage of time. It's easy to live like you're still in your twenties and have all the time left in the world only to realize you're forty or fifty and can't really account for that time, nor cope with your mortality. We're all losing every moment that passes us by, and we're all "powerless to make it stop." The only alternative to facing the future is to retreat into unreality, or punch your own ticket - neither of which will stop time, just squander your potential.
