Hey everybody! My channel consists of videos I take on an everyday basis; usually at work. I am starting to do some hobby videos as well which will mostly be related to classic video game hardware/software. My job covers many different trades. I especially focus on HVAC service calls/projects. I work mostly with WSHPs on a day-to-day basis; so most of my service videos will be about them. I have learned much about Air conditioning and Refrigeration from the knowledgeable veterans here on You Tube. I have taken the tests and read the textbooks but, RU-vid allows us to share real life situations. I appreciate all of you who have taken your time/money/effort/tools/supplies to make these great educational tools. I hope I can help people learn from my experiences as well. Feel free to leave a comment or ask a question. Please check out some of these other great Channels!
it's...interesting lol I'm about 2/3 thru it and I like it. But the story didn't pull me in as much as Chrono Trigger. And the menu system makes me wanna die; especially when I haven't played the game for a couple months and I kinda forgot how it works lol
Please feel free to contact me if you'd like me to attempt repairs on your games/hardware. I'd be happy to do it for the content if you can cover shipping both ways. ^_^
Hello friends, if you would like me to attempt repairs on your expansion pak or any other items; I would certainly entertain the idea as long as you cover the shipping. Reply to this comment if interested ^_^
@@SoilentGr33n thanks for watching! I'm ready for it whenever! I have a viewer sending me their entire console next week so i can clean it and make sure the issue we think is related to the expansion pak gets fixed ^_^
@@71dembonesTV NICE I checked mine and RA1 3rd one down has no continuity at all. I think I'm gonna try and fix it myself but all I have is a soldering gun. I'm gonna get a pencil iron, some smb resistors and some beer and attempt this. I'm still subbing to your channel man, and if I film this I'll send you a video response lol
Hi there. Have same issues with one resistor at 8k ohm. How did solder it on? Ontop like you said in your video? Or did you remove and solder a new one in it place?
yes, i just went over the top to avoid having to remove the whole array. no reason to not do this unless the failed resistor shorted (has less resistance than the proper one) if the failed resistor is high or infinite resistance (open) you can go right over the top no worries
@@greeneyez93274 i used an individual one from my sample book to avoid having to order and wait for a whole new array. if you need to order parts anyways, i might just order the exact part. it will be more difficult to unsolder though so depends on your skill level. its all about what you feel comfortable with attempting. if u only measure one resistor in the array out of tolerance and you're not sure of your soldering skills/tools; try to just patch one in like i did here. less work and less risk
my brother, i just picked up a second N64 from the pawn shop which they told me had no AV out. booted it up and it seemed to work great, it had a jumper pak in it. decide to test my old n64, and it did not boot. figured out my old expansion pak has failed much like yours. about to pull it apart, and check it too, but im sure its the same issue with one or many of the resistors failing. my question is which sample book did you buy? the 0603? im still learning SM repair. but big props for figuring and cataloging this one for the community!
thanks for watching and im glad you got some good out of it! i have a couple sample books now. these are the 0603 size. feel free to link this video on reddit or wherever makes sense. dont have social media myself but, i'd like for folks to have access to what i've figured out. there's a few things documented on my channel that i was unable to find online in forums or whatever
I haven't even watched this yet, but I love the description, especially when you refer to them as 'evil.' I passionately hate these things, I am not a plumber, but if I were, I would be on the same mission. At my job, one is broken, and you have to push this button, but the button is so hard to push, it actually feels like it's going to break my finger. Nobody ever flushes it, so it just sits there unflushed and disgusting every day until someone finally takes the trouble. Half the time, these things either don't work when they're supposed to, or they flush repeatedly when you don't want them to.
it is the same valve body yes, but different internals. old urinals are 1.5 or 1.25 gpf. new ones are as little as .25 (to the horror of many maintenance men). make sure you get the right internals but the valve bodies are indeed interchangeable
@@71dembonesTV I tried to reply for a day now and YT doesn't seem to want to publish it. Anyways, I saw it on a post on reddit, i might be wrong about it as well
@@juani.rodriguez7326 YT comments are glitchy sometimes ^_^ If you have the post, feel free to link it. It may be that someone fitted a joycon or other custom stick into an N64 controller and the cap worked for that.
I bought an everdrive for my N64 and some games just started freezing, I could get consistent freezes on Turok 2 all at the same spot in the intro cutscene, it just would not advance, I'd try finaggling with the cartridge, cleaned up the ports thoroughly, but I'd still get crashes on the same spot. I thought it was the everdrive but then I remember that I have 2 copies of Perfect Dark and they all freeze in the exact same spot when walking around Carrington Institute, THEN it'd bleed into other games, like Ocarina of Time wouldn't get past the title screen. I figured it was all just really dirty and old but despite cleaning it as best as I could, it would still not work at all. I then decided to just swap the Expansion Pak with my old Jumper Pak, and I haven't gotten any freezes at all, which means it's probably something wrong with the Expansion Pak, though I did not know what. My next test I wondered if I should just wait for it to "warm up" so I left the N64 on for a couple minutes, turned Turok 2 on and....It booted the game thinking I had a Jumper Pak on instead of an Expansion Pak. Oh-oh. I pulled it out and reinserted it and now the game booted recognizing the pak, and it didn't freeze in the intro cutscene, which pretty much tells me that there's probably something wrong with it. You think that could be the case? One of the resistors is starting to go bad?
thanks for watching! im almost certain this is the same problem and is seemingly becoming increasingly common as these things age. Another factor is aging capacitors in the N64. Just like any machine, it may work with one or two worn components but once you start getting multiple items failing; the reliability drops off. But its a very easy fix (for me at least) and I hope this video will help save a few from getting tossed in the trash. I will offer the same thing to you I have offered to others. If you want to send me your console/expansion pak; I would try to fix it just for the sake of the content. I'll make a video of the process and post it. Then you'll have a properly working and mildly famous console/expansion pak ^_^ If you're interested, let me know P.S. just for your information, consumer electronic should not need to "warm up" (unless that is specifically noted by the manufacturer). If you have anything behaving this way its from failing components like capacitors/resistors and you are potentially doing damage to the more delicate and not easily replaceable parts (like the CPU and other proprietary chipsets). If you have gear behaving like this that you care about; it is strongly advised to leave it powered off until you can have it repaired.
@@71dembonesTV I see. Thanks for the reply! I'd love to send my stuff in but international matters complicate things. I will probably look for a way to do it myself and learn in the process. I know now from your video that I should look at the resistors, but this is sounding more and more like a capacitor problem, I got a PS2 slim and the component video output comes out very gray until after some 20 minutes some color comes back in, which pretty much tells me it's a capacitor though I do not know how to measure one so I know exactly how to replace with an accurate one. Nonetheless you've encouraged me to try. Thanks!
@@aquelescaraaaaaaaaaa ah yes, physical distance is always putting a pinch on these kind of things! i wish you the best in your endeavors to learn electronic repair! With some experience, you can learn which exact capacitors you need to replace to solve a specific problem but, often times if you need to replace one you need to replace them all. Sometimes it is obvious that capacitors are bad from corrosion on the circuit board and/or bulging caps and/or a "fishy" smell inside the unit. When in doubt replace all the caps; ideally before you turn it on again. in some situations you can upgrade capacitors to something you wont have to replace again (ie ceramic capacitors instead of electrolytics) but, this also takes experience and application-specific knowledge. Buy a circuit board practice kit (or rip apart old electronics) and a decent soldering iron and start building your skills. use no-clean flux and good quality leaded solder. do what you can to clean circuit boards with rubbing alcohol before/after working on them. you'll be a master in no time! ^_^
Hello! I have an N64 that seems to turn on based on the red LED turning on, but there is absolutely no signal output. I have a jumper pak for the system, so I’m wondering if it may have developed a similar issue as your expansion pak. What do you think?
Hi! unfortunately there's quite a few issues that could lead to no video/sound. some easy things to try (if possible)are: cleaning the game cartridge/ cartridge slot and/or trying another cartridge. cleaning the jumper pak/slot and/or trying another jumper/expansion pak making sure your video cables/input are working/ correct if none of those items; work it will need some disassembly/testing to get it figured out
Hello friend, I have an old frustration since 2010 I bought an expansion pak on ebay to play perfect dark and zelda majoras mask, but the expansion pak never worked, just for a few minutes, and then it would freeze and turn off. Could you receive my expansion pak and fix it?
hi! thanks for watching. if you can find a way to ship it to me with prepaid return shipping label; i would be happy to try and fix it for you. ^_^ let me know what you can find out on your end
I have my gameboy camera since childhood and I admittedly haven't used it in over 18 years but I turned it on today to find all my pictures of friends and family gone 😢I guess the small battery didn't have the power to hold onto pictures in memory for so long. I bought a gameboy cartridge reader to connect to the pc and extract the gameboy pictures but it was all blank.
I'm sorry to hear about your loss there. :( I have also had a few similar tragedies. Yes, these things are getting to the age where even the high quality batteries they installed at the factory are getting past their service life. it can be somewhat hit/miss however as I have some NES cartridges with nearly 40 year old batteries that still hold saves. If you have any other cartridges or memory cards with precious data; I suggest you get the batteries replaced asap. Unless you're quite confident in soldering/electrical understanding; I'd have this done by someone with experience. Replacing the battery with no concern for the data is easy and a good project for anyone to try and learn soldering. Preserving the save files and replacing the battery is going to require more steps and may not be so easy. Let me know if you have anything like that. I'd probably be willing to help you with it just for the youtube content if you were comfortable with it
it did make an appreciable temperature difference(as shown by the gauges) but, unfortunately didnt get as much time to experiment as i would have liked. overall i think the capacity was a bit on the small side. the same capacity (pump and panels) on a smaller pool would have given very nice results i think.
Hi. 85 water temp is normal in Fl ...if it is R 22. The head press. Is high already....before anything u need to kno GPM here is 3 per ton so u may need 9 gpm for 3 ton ....if head psi is hi Do a backflush first then chech again or a free lze flush or a free Run where u disconect return water hose and let it Run...come to Fl i ll show u our units here i do this every day. Blessings
unfortunately i never knew the exact number as i did not maintain the pool or do work on pools in general typically. it was maybe 25 x 100 feet long and rectangular. 12 ft deep at one end i believe. it was for sure the biggest pool i ever worked on personally. and probably the biggest residential pool ive seen in person. more like a resort sized public pool
console5.com/store/4mm-5-32-nut-driver-screwdriver-for-sega-genesis-2-cd-power-supply-repair.html hi, thanks for watching. its a 4mm nut driver that you need. here's a link^
i cant tell if its my expension pak or n64 that doesnt like to work here n there it will randomly jsut reset its self after random time how can i tell which is the problem its not the game cause if it was the battery wouldnt save so ya
@@matthoward9509 no reason to do that and i dont think it would work. the jumper pack might have those resistors soldered on there if you wanted to swiped them off of there.
51 ohm resistor. 0603 size SMD package. there's probably enough room to stab a standard thru-hole resistor in there if you bend the legs right. I have the sample book so its easy to just find the right one most of the time
Thanks! I had a Sega Game gear power supply not functioning. The barrel jack connector had broken and shorted out somehow. I looked and eventually found a 2.5a thermal fuse tucked in between the prongs of the wall jack once I opened it up. I got some on order so should be back in business soon!
thanks for watching! I got to Console5 for all my retro game recap kits (they have other mod/repair components as well). In theory, if you were opening an electronic repair shop; you would be better off buying in bulk from Mouser Electronics or a similar vendor. But, if you're just doing a project here and there (even if it's a kind of side business) it's much nicer to just have a complete kit with all the tech notes/upgraded parts for the specific console you're working on. They source high-quality, brand name caps in all the their kits like Rubycon or Nichicon; probably buying in bulk from Mouser themselves.
thanks for watching and i do agree it's a better application on urinals but, i have still seen them stick open and flood a restroom/adjacent areas just the same as the toilet flushometers. And the flaky, insanely overpriced electronics are the same. This is truly one of the cases where we had something that wasn't broken (tried and true for 100+ years in medical/commercial/institutional applications) and some new-age hipster engineers decided to fix it anyways. No matter how cheap the parts get(which they probably won't anyhow); it will always be a mechanically inferior and environmentally unsound alternative to a good old handle.
@@71dembonesTV and here’s smth crazy: a bathroom I been in before has an automatic flushometer on the toilet but a manual one on the urinal. I also hear that the toilet flushes too soon while being used or doesn’t flush at all when you’re done using it with an automatic flushometer
@@TakoElevators yep another common issue with these things is it not flushing when you want it to. either it flushes when you lean forward to retie your shoe or whatever or it doesn't flush when you stand up. then you have to do the unthinkable act of making physical contact with the button like a caveman. or you know, just have a handle that will never flush when you don't tell it to and you can kick it with your shoe to avoid touching the handle. touch free and reliable. for the urinals, if the management insists on having auto flushers; a much better option is the "retrofit" style sensors that just bolt up in the same spot as the handle. those can fail too of course but their more common failure mode is to just not flush rather than stick open. and i bet that a whole assembly is less than any one of the several ridiculously overpriced electronic parts that make up the new valves.
my man, this is exactly the kind of comment I like to hear! My goal is to provide the kind of info I can never find when I'm looking for it! I'm carving out a cool little niche for myself here on YT with the esoteric repair videos lol Sorry I didn't get any before/after footage of testing it but, trust me it worked! L channel audio was almost silent before this and was full volume after. This little switcher has worked great for me for years and I believe with a recap it will last for years more. Hell, if you popped some Rubycon or Nichicon caps in there it might last the rest of your life and beyond with better-than-OEM performance!
Those caps of 220Uf 10v one is for s-video Y line other is for compositive they are not really needed in some last boards pal around 2000 and some ntsc they just don't exist so you could also bridge their pads no problem i fix n64 since the 2003
Immense thanks for posting this video! I also had a defective Expansion Pak, and it turned out to be a bad resistor just like with yours. I ordered a new resistor for a couple cents from Digi-Key, and managed to make the fix as you showed. Definitely tested my soldering skills to their limit, but the fix worked and I am now also able to play DK64 😂 Thanks again, and great video!
Glad to hear it! the best kind of feedback i can get is that the information was useful. up until i posted this video; i could find zero information on repairing them. since then i have found one video from a spanish-speaking youtuber doing a similar repair but, that's it. So i'm glad to have found a niche!
@@AutBelli hi! i forget at the moment but that info should be in the video ^_^ i want to say it was 51ohms. something weird like that. i know the package size is 0603 SMD
When testing mine that was defective I was getting 51 between some legs and some where bouncing all over the place, ordered some more resistor arrays for like $2 on eBay
Thanks for watching! Hope it works out. If i didn't have those SMD resistors in stock already; i would have replaced the whole array even for just the one that was showing bad. I'm currently running that one in my console and it has held up for a full DK64 playthru with no signs of trouble :)
@@71dembonesTV Yeah I replaced the heater core (PITA like you say) and within a year it was leaking bad. So I'm done with it. Luckily I live in Arizona so just a couple months of the year are fairly cold. Heard you can use the defrost for a little bit of warmth instead lol. Also heard that by doing this, the AC works better. Not sure how that can be the case but that's what one video showed but it was on a 3rd gen I believe.
