not everything is 2 5 1, and in fact while a lot of progressions FUNCTION the same, the harmony is quite different IE 4 b2 1, 4 4- 1, 2 4diminished maj7. In this case he was superimposing a tritone sub, this dude is all about superimposing, which is why his catchphrase is "wrong notes only." Instead of playing consonantly or just with standard bebop tensions he's super imposing other material that can go crazy, that's what his style of playing is all about to me. That's where the jazz stank face comes in lol.
This is just a tritone sub. So Gb dominant sound instead of C dominant. It's an Fmaj 2-5-1 (G-7, C7, Fmaj7). I should've written it on the sheet music! Got lazy lol
Wow, darling Daniel, this is your Auntie even though it shows a picture of Uncle Steve. I love your playing and would love for you to produce more for me to listen to. You are simply a phenomenal player of all things musical. Congratulations on your upcoming marriage. Love Auntie Roxanne
the first i heard of this game was a vocal cover and i did get a bit teary but when i watched a playthrough i fully broke down in tears, the context of the song made it way more emotional

I did not think I would listen to all 19 minutes; that was amazing! Especially that part where you trick everyone into clapping just before the song ends. I love it!
really, really exceptional musicality omg <3 very expressive cello and piano playing and what impressed me the most was how well you communicated the poignant, painful beauty of To The Moon's story and Shigihara's work, your love for the game was very evident in your playing. Also the extended ending was a nice surprise, it felt like the version that might play during the credits scene and I especially liked how it felt like one last emotional outburst, which is very much in keeping with the game itself. Thank you for this, it was very moving.
This was a beautiful introduction to your channel! Your cello playing is so expressive, I really liked the communicative tone you achieved here. You've put some serious thought into your phrasing, and it shows. Sometimes, in multitracked works like this, it's easy for them to not feel like chamber music, and feel more like disconnected parts, but I loved the way your piano work interwove itself with the cello line. It does sound slightly to me like the piano has a wider dynamic range here, and the cello wasn't quite joining it at full pelt for those big crescendi, but that could just be a personal preference, and I thought you achieved a really fitting mix throughout. I'm not 100% convinced by the piano coda, because while it was interesting, expressive, and a lovely follow-up comment on the theme, after that perfect recital-piece ending with the cello, it just felt a little bit out-of place to me, like it was coming from another arrangement. That being said, I did enjoy the way you explored some new tonal ideas there, before tying it back to the vocabulary and style that you ended on with the cello; that was a nice touch. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of your work in the future, thanks for being part of this competition!
This was gorgeous. I'm sad to say I still haven't played this game but wow this arrangement is really quite special. Your playing on both piano and cello is really impressive. So nuanced and expressive. Well done! Keep it up! I will absolutely be checking out your other videos in the future! Thanks for being part of this competition!
