Detonation. Something was causing the charge to begin burning before the spark plug fired. That's almost always the case when you have a whole in the top of your piston.
Photo footage of outboard races is nearly always shot by well-meaning but unskilled amateurs. But the footage here is surprisingly good, with very steady panning that follows the action smoothly.
@@slowstartfast2162 cool, didn't catch it. We raced A, B and B1, set record back in the 90's. Won APBA winter nationals 2019, I retired from racing then
Where can I get one of these both again are used to ride in New South Wales or Windsor which was called up the Hawkesbury power boat club I’m itching to get back into the game
You can read about a tunnel hull builder who I believe is a part of the Hawkesbury club here --www.boatracingfacts.com/forums/showthread.php?16523-12ft-Tunnel-Build/page43
This sure brings back memories, the last time I raced was on this lake in 1965,ASH Mercury KG4 engine with a Bendix magneto, quicksilver lower unit, McDonald boat out of Portland,Ore. I was just a kid that had a lot of fun although I wasn’t a very successful racer. We even raced on Green Lake in Seattle back in the day. APBA/SOA . I guess I’ll go back to sleep in my chair and reminisce.
Depends on if you want a vintage or modern engine, how much you weight and how fast you want to go. Any 8hp -15hp two stroke with a standard lower unit should give you a smooth ride like this video. Always install a kill switch. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DaC0mGope0Y.html I'm liking my 8hp Yamaha two stroke on non-racing small craft. 58 pounds.
The silver two cylinder Yamato outboards pull start with a rope, the rope does not rewind back into the motor. The loud 4 cylinder Mercury outboards, some teams have a battery powered starter motor that they place on top of the flywheel and then detach once it's running.
44 cubic inch mercury 4 cylinder. i really don't know the hp or rpm but the yellow boat had/has speed records for a 1mile 2/3 course at 81.8 mph average and straightaway kilo at 96.7 mph. None of these were competitive for MX racing after 1972 era ....none. Nice play bikes though. Fun for trails. Had one..a Super Rat missed gears alot no power no suspension. Got a 1976 RM125 light years faster better for racing . No disrespect to Hodaka just not good for racing. Thanks
I modded my 73 Wombat to a Super Combat cylinder with Eric Jensen welded on reed valve manifold and port job.Custom down pipe and silencer.Super Combat close ratio transmission. My friend got a new TM 125 and my Hodaka was done. The RM 125 is a monster compared to both of them.
Great bikes. My Father bought my Brother and me two Super Rats in 1972 from Kingston Mower, in Kingston, NH, the Samoset Brothers, for $585 each. My Rat would destroy my buddy’s Yamaha 175 in a drag race.
Out of the 3 hodaka's that i had in the 70's, the only thing have left is my Jersey with my name on the back. I just need 3 more to sew together to fit me again.
Thanks I couldn't remember what year they started going to Athena for the event. I went to the one that was held at Mid Ohio around 2006. I hope to make it to Athena one day!

Man, I wish I had my Hodaka 100 & riding in that parade. It would be a dream come true! That was my first motorcycle that my Dad bought me at Montgomery Motorsports on Oahu, Hawaii
