Even when they were quite new, early Focuses used to catch rust on the inner edges of the door skins where they marry up with the door shells. As a result, door bottom rust was quite common, even when the mk1's were still current. The first mk3 Mondeos suffered the same way.
I'm sure 2002 and 2003 were the Focus's worst rust years. This corrosion @22:12 to 23:26 is very similar to what I once noticed on a silver Focus TDCi Ghia that visited our garage about 7 years ago, which then had to be scrapped. My line manager had to call the customer to come over so he could show them why it failed its final MOT big time. The car was EF52VBD, the MOT history is damning. It makes me wonder how young this particular Focus was, when its first-ever rust spot had appeared in its body shell.
That particular Focus had around 60,000 miles taken off its mileage in 2007, and was scrapped in November 2017 at around 167,000 (or rather it should have been 227,000 miles) so any major work on it was never going to be worth doing.
Any area of any car can rot given the time, exposure to certain elements. This is not an exhaustive list but personally I have not known a MK1 to go in this area but it's always possible given the right conditions.
I remember the original Mk1 being advertised with a guaranteed 10 years rust free, or Ford would take care of it. Naturally they and their dealers never stepped up to the plate and found every wiggle room out of this so called 10 year warranty.
the whole length of the sills? That wont be cheap it depends on if there is more areas that need looking at whether that will be viable for you going forwards
Typical ford with rust in the normal places I would have a ka sport again if not a focus or MK4 fiesta doesn't matter wat ford they all rust would never have a MK2 focus more electronic problems which stops them running I've not been watching u tube the last few weeks been bissy and not been well yet again I don't need to see the pictures 😂🤣
This is more of an awareness video for those who arn't "in the know" with MK1 Focuses, which is most people who are discovering how expensive they are.
i bought my focus 1.8 ( 04 zetec)... in march 2023..... it was dirty but looked ok... owner said it was her sons from new and took it to spain... the sunny part... but after a few years he wasnt using it as much... so he sold it back to his parents... they used it a bit over the next 4 years... but decided to sell it... i was lucky... it went through its MOT with no advisories no rust ...anywhere...ive even been in the MOT pit to look....its great... 20yrs old... im gunna look after her... shes called nickel.....its my profile pic... love your channel... hopefully meet some time at a focus or ford meet...
In my case, I had bad enough (I think I sent for you pictures while ago), whole sill was replaced, so yeah, I agree rusting is really bad for mk1. Unless you have garage probably all of them will affected.
I work in a bodyshop and the 2002/2003;cars were rusting when 6 or 7 yrs old the doors were bad for this the sealer on the inside used to fall off the last of the line seem better my 54 plate I waxoiled the sills and the rear seat belt mounting area when it was 10yrs old it's doing ok no rust as yet
Anyone know how many 1.8 petrol Ghia left on the road? I've got an ex-UK model in the Republic, and it's the love of my life. It was first registered in October 04, and for its 20th birthday, I intend to lavish some TLC on it, and bring it back to its original condition. My son has a 1.6 Centenary (no. 49) which was, sadly, written off by an absolute tool in a SUV a few weeks ago. We're in negotiations to get it back and rebuild. There can't be many of them left, I'd have thought.
Firstly you've confirmed he didn't have the car but what a coincidence your called Paul! Secondly I can't believe you've not heard of Paul the Rover man. He runs out rover channel on youtube, probably the biggest one! Your GTI auto is wonderful and very rare great to see it. My pleasure in sharing :)
As you said, I loved the variety at this show. Though there was definitely a lot of Rovers, French cars, Fords and solid tank Volvos. Loved seeing all of them.
This show makes me smile, I really do need to attend one year, seeing all these old classics and modern classics looked after and still enjoyed by their owners is great to see, far better than the misery of the modern rubbish you get nowadays. I urge these owners to protect these cars from the Uk climate if they aren’t already as it will be just waiting to destroy and make more extinct eventually, a bit like ULEZ so it’s good to see these in great condition. I do see you skip past many Hondas, would be good to see them as well. Great coverage of the show.
cheers Im glad you enjoyed this coverage, I absolutely agree and I think this show is a massive fingers up to ULEZ/Clean air zones and all the challenges that face the bulk of cars that attended this show today. the majority being post 1984 cars which face big challenges!
Was a great day and still huge numbers that go. I recognise tgat ted astra van from JayWmm RU-vid channel as he put video out about it a few days before. Saw more Protons and Citroen ZXs than I have in past 10 years.
@@usuallyfixingtinkering ok, will take another look. I've had this machine since 2004 and that's what the dealer told me it should be. As a brand new vehicle the Power steering fluid was red so I was a bit confused by the green fluid
I have the same car (manual transmission) and I have a rusted earth screw, exactly at the same point that you have cut your rusted screw. I am going to restore all the earth points of my car but i ll use a lot of WD40 before the unscrew.Thank you for the video.
Hi, I hear a TRRRR noise from the engine when I am at half gas and under load. I feels like knocking sound. Did you have ever this problem? I put some octane booster but no luck. I also put some motorcraft plugs but the same thing happens. Full serviced with belts, injector cleaned etc but no new HT leads and coilpack. What else should I check?
@@TheTaverniaris You probably have to continue checking stuff. Continue where you left. Trouble shoot the rest of the ignition system. Check the fuel system. Bad fuel supply? Bad fuel quality? Maybe you got unlucky and got some low quality fuel (if that is a thing where you live). It's not easy for me to say much more... I think you just have to continue trouble shooting... unless someone more experienced than me knows the issue.
@@vevos_at first, thank you for your help. I put some octane booster and I think that it is a liiiittle better right now. I found that the coil pack comes from a KA (part number: A988F12029AD). Can a Visteon coil pack from a KA create a problem? At next step I would like to buy a OBD2 reader.
Mine is at 130k. 2011 4spd SEL model. As soon as you put into drive. Wrench light comes on. I pulled codes and i cant remember exact code, but it was for a shift solenoid c electrical circuit malfunction. I replaced the shift solenoid c. It does good on all shifts EXCEPT into 4th. It will go into 4th and immediately slam back down into 3rd. Any advice? Do you think this is electrical?
Of course sorry I didn'nt think, it's difficult to diagnose that issue but it may be the servo piston in the sump area is worn and bleeding pressure between 3 and 4th, its a round rubber disc covered by a small panel with three nuts holding it down and it had a shaft that pushes on one of the clutches, this does wear or even breaks, if that happened though it would affec 2-3 shift, so may be just worn. If it is it is a tricky repair and needs reboring by a transmission specialist to refit the old piston.
@usuallyfixingtinkering that's what I was curious about. 2-3 isn't bad is why I'm stumped. And no slipping between 3 and 4. It goes into 4th but shortly after quickly jolts down. Weird weird stuff.
Interesting hearing the brake story. Nice seeing George improving. I'll have to be careful when I work on the throttle housing and throttle position sensor after seeing this.
I would certainly love to do something like that... however my cars need to win something for me to have those credentials. Amazingly none of my cars I consider to be concourse, they tend to be used!
Great review of an interesting car. I'm really getting into the 600 range and could see myself owning one in the future. The ABS system gas issue is a real worry and I might always think I'm driving a ticking time bomb?
As someone who is into their Hondas and owned many, The interior is near identical to the 5th gen Honda Accord, the front lights also share a little similarity due to them being small and rectangular. Where Rover would be today if Honda was still with them, will leave it there. More need to save these old Rovers before they become extinct one day.
@@brucemay5409 not sure if you have been in an Accord of the generation but both were off a high standard, my friend has a 5th gen Accord and that still looks like new, so don’t compare one to the other, both were finished off the same high standard.
Didn't these have a facelift where, no matter what model 600 you had, the boot badge would always say '600'. The rust-proofing seemed to get better after about R-reg, as there are still quite a few well-kept late-model 600s around my area, in Exeter. If I was looking for a viable, stylish replacement for the family Polo, I would begin a long search for a clean, early 115bhp 620i in British Racing Green or Caribbean Blue, as the entry-level versions still had that executive-car feel and was not cheapened in any way, shape or form. The underrated and understated 620ti is still very quick.
Great advice! I would say people get hung over around the '620ti' compared to a 623 like this, which is a as quick as anything I've driven. There was no facelift, the badge thing was rover cutting costs!
