I'm glad I watched the whole video. I got the answer to my question at 16:00. I'm more a roadie than a mtb'er. But I do hit trails now and then (XC). I was looking for something I can rely on, not too expensive but still having the modern stuff and geometry. I'm still using a Giant Advance 3 Carbon '26 mtb. It's fun but comes short when riding with others. Although I converted it in a 1X -11. I have the feeling that I have to work harder compared with others who's riding in a '29. I'm not living in the US. I'm from Curacao an Island in the Caribbean. This was the place where the World cup mtb from 2006 was hosted. But I think it will suit me perfectly. Thanks for sharing..
So you're using metal pads . I've read that best combo regarding disc brakes pads is a metal pad on the inside and a resin / organic pad on the outside
I know it's a couple of years old now (guess that makes me late to the party), but this is one of the best videos I've seen that weighs up the differences between the two wheel sizes on a gravel bike. Great video!
Hey bud, was looking at the Marin Team 1 as a more XC-oriented replacement for my hardtail. Didn't expect this video to be filmed exactly where I'd plan to ride it!
I bought a Kona Rove DL last year and it came with 650bs and I really like the comfort and it’s fast enough on road. Just completed my first century on it and I’ve got to say the comfort outweighed the slight speed disadvantage especially when climbing at mile 90😅
700c gravel bikes need more clearance for wider tyres? Especially for L and XL frames. Each size of bike really needs it's own custom fork and different clearances. As well as bar width, stem sizes etc. Everything needs to scale up basically!
I have a specialized sequoia with 700 x 43mm tires but I changed to 650b x 2.0 for riding the Great Divide. I loved the cushioning, clearance and feel of it. The bike is staying at 650b for sure.
Been running the ICAN G25 650B carbon gravel wheels and Schwalbe G-One tubeless. Several advantages: Wider tire, no toe overlap, lower BB, easier climbing, fits easier in Orucase Airport Ninja travel case.
I love the paint you have used on it but for me the original paint was one of those colours that really stands out. Wouldn't have cared if you had repainted a boring old black one but I really liked the blue 🤣
Would buying the Topstone 1 solve what you thought to be poor quality parts on the Topstone 4? That's what I gathered from what you said, but I would like to be more certain if I'm seriously thinking of buying one. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Love the videos 😁
Bought this is october 2020, had to change the wheels in Jan 2022 as i was getting a lot of wobble on front wheels and a noticeable amount on back wheels. My usage was something like a 8-10km commute twice a weeks with a third of the commute being on hard gravel. My bike repair guy told me that this was to be expected. Thought I’d mention this here. But other than that, I love this bike!
The inner rim width is 23 mil, you say it's 23 thousandths of an inch?? Wtf are you smoking. If you mean 23 millimeter then say the word, don't use a completely different unit of length. M I L L I M E T E R is different than M I L
get some subscribers before you mouth off about things you have a problem with. Instead of being an armchair warrior come and meet me where we can discuss it in person. 😛👌🏻
I cant decide, I want a new bike but not sure if a gravel bike like your topstone or possible the BMc]C Twostroke whch i believe is simillar to this. I just want a do it all bike for cycling gravel. What do you prefer the gravel or hardtail. Thanks
I love the Marin but honestly hardly ride it. I need to do more videos to update you all but im spending a lot of time on a road bike with gravel tyres/gearing which does pretty much everything. It isnt fast off road but gets me where I want to go.
I have a Cube Acid XC hardtail with a 2x11 SLX/XT crank set, if i'm riding rough trails or down hilling it's my go to bike, but anything less aggressive it gets second place to my Gravel bike, I can ride my Gravel bike 30 miles in comfort yet no matter what I do I find the MTB less comfortable over distance and the slow pace on road sections is tedious, it's horses for courses!
@@AddictedBikes would you recommend going tubeless with this bike? I want to ride some gravel but it won’t be anything super chunky. I will also ride on the road a lot. thank you sir
If you are still looking for a ti gravel bike planet x have there ti gravel bike the tempest on sale now purchased myself one yesterday 1650 also really good spec 👍🏻
Why do people insist on using 1x cranks? That only really works for mountain bikes. For gravel & road you want the flexibility of a 2X. Do yourself a favour and get the 46/32 grx crank. There's hardly any weight or complexity penalty in adding a front derailleur. The grx rear derailleur will fit a 40 teeth cassette.
I just purchased this bike. I love everything about it as an entry level rider but I hate the brakes as well. What is something I can upgrade to without changing my groupset? Is there any hydraulic upgrades?
A Topstone 1 has all the good stuff already on it. The Topstone 4 has an inferior square taper bottom bracket. This is big compromise even with all the mods.
Hello, I would like to get on my bike: Triban GRVL 520 Sram Apex 1x11 buy rims DT Swiss G 1800 Spline. And according to the manufacturer, I can use 650x47 or 700x42 Please advise, What option would you choose from my options?
I have the same bike and I love it. If I were you I’d put a 700c 40c. Unless you’re using your bike in very technical rides where a lot of maneuverability and suspension are required, the wheels that come with the bike will only make it slower
I have two gravel bikes and I just don’t get it. I gave it a long try but i think I’m done. I think hard tail 29ers are better for most people in most situations.
How do the to the welds compare to those on your titanium bike? I think the welds on his bike look phenomenal and a further reminder that a human craftsperson was responsible instead of a machine.
