Welcome to the channel! My name is Jonathan. I created this channel to service lovers of all things music! I do playthrough's of all different genres of music, I teach music theory, song tutorials and so much more! There's something here for everyone to enjoy God's gift of music!
This video was very helpful! Would love to learn different chord progressions that lead you into and out of a 2-5-1. Haven’t had any luck finding lessons on this.
Stay tuned big update coming in a week or two. Finally have a studio to start making consistent content again. Hopefully some of the new stuff will make more sense. If you don’t mind me asking where was I loosing you? What were some of the prices that were difficult to follow for you?
What about 7th chords? 2 - 3 - 7 are gonna be minor always? Same with major numbers? I'm just starting learning about this and I want to know how to make progression with 7th chords
Check out my video “music theory crash course” it’s a two part video but it will answer your question much better than a written response. In short, seventh chords are an extension of the base chord 1&4 would be major 7th 2,3&6 are min7. 5 is a Dominant 7 normally written as (7) And the 7 is a diminished 7th chord The video will make it all connect. Once you get the basics down you’ll be able to apply this to other keys and open up your vocabulary.
Thanks so much for this lesson! I want to learn music theory and you make it very easy to understand. This is like music theory for dummies. love it!!!!!!!
Thank you for a very coherent explanation. You have clarified the connections between the piano keys, the intervals, the circle of fifths, major scales and minor scales. I appreciate the work you have put in to make something so complex understandable.
😍💯🙌You are a great teacher and I love your articulation, openness and Originality: You didn't even complicate things. Thank you for this. This channel should have more likes and subscribers than it currently does.
Thank you so much! This means a lot and is yet another confirmation that when I return to consistent uploads that God will use me to reach even more people with the gifts He has blessed me with.
Hi. I just got a new Yamaha DGX-670 from my wife for Christmas and this is exactly the kind of playing I'm wanting to do! I'm going to back up through your videos (as this is the 1st of yours I have seen) and am going to just focus and getting the scales down and work my way quickly (I hope!) to this point as shown in this video! (Funny story....as I'm tying this, I've messed up a few times as I was 'thinking' there were black notes in the way of my computer keys! lol! It's kindof similar, except the pattern of a keyboard isn't ever supposed to change!!!)
Lol you’ll get it down in no time. My goal is to make it as simple as possible because once you get past the growing pains this will all become second nature to you 👊🏾
The best thing is to really work on arpeggios and learning how to feel the subdivision in the music. A good way to accomplish this is to transcribe some of your favorite licks and runs. It will also develops right and left hand independence which is one of the keys to playing rhythmically.
Any chance you can break down how you are playing the progressions? with embellishments? I really want a nice progression with licks to move through each key, I really like what you did @10:30 and @2:35 - would really like the MIDI files or a slow version to explain what you doing in terms of chords + scale degrees
Greetings God-King Video is on Point.... Up in this Here Joint! Do you have a video/tutorial showing how you are doing those Rhythmic patterns? Thanks for this video... Health Prosperity always #ladyduchess
I just wanted to say that something that I have found out for myself, is that if you keep the melody on top of the chord, you will almost always have a correct inversion if you build the chord backwards from it. Never really heard anyone talking about it though!
Nice observation! And your right it’s all about perspective and once you break out of the musical boxes we’ve been taught you’ll realize a world of options are available no matter what key your in.
Hi Jonathan, great video! For the hands together scales starting on different notes how does the fingering work? I've noticed that a lot of pianists don't use the traditional fingering for scales when they actually do runs and fills in songs.
Traditional fingering is helpful when learning basics but you’ll ultimately find that they are more limiting than helpful when you run across a riff or run that doesn’t work with the traditional fingering. Finding your own fingering is the best way to do it. And it’s gonna be different for everyone as long as you reach the indented goal.
Yes but if you think of everything from the perspective of it being the major scale it will save all the mental gymnastics when you want to play borrowed chords or do key changes
