I love you!! Thank you so much! Can you do a beginner series and go much slower please! I’m so excited about my new hobby!!!! ❤I want to learn it and play for my family around a camp fire before summers over. We had 2 tragedies recently and wanted to do something to cheer everyone up.
I would suppose playing alone at home, fiddle tunes and Irish traditional songs are fine on the mandola. I have just purchased a flattop mandola, hoping to continue to play the music I have studied under you for the last decade. I look forward to hearing this difference. Thanks for explaining the variances. Have a great day, Baron!
You say it's the same tuning as mandolin octave down but what size of strings, are they plain or wound. I got one years ago but it's in the cupboard as the low string just gave a plonking sound and didn't ring clear. You play well by the way.
Yes. Very good. G scale is indeed the one to learn first with D and A close behind. Lots of songs written and performed in C also. Many Jam sessions have lots of people who use key of C to play in.
Thank You!! I'm a 6 yr. guitar player/performer- I also play fiddle, Irish flute/whistle, bodhran and Appalachian Dulcimer/strumstick etc. entering mando this year. I WAS heading over into Eastman Octave mandolin territory, but $$ right now, soooo...I think a "the whore" (loar)😂 mando is in the works for me this summer...then get my chops *pun intended...before shelling out $1k for the Eastman. Thoughts? 🤔
Best and most comprehensive lesson I've seen for this beautiful classic. Thanks!! If you have the time: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jBJjikowb6A.html
Interesting. I sold my mandolin’s, as much as I like the sound I felt the neck was too narrow and felt too crowded especially in the upper register. And I don’t even have large hands or fingers. What are the neck widths on the mandolins and octave mandolins?
I really wanna say that I'm impressed. Coming from a mandolin, this thing is pretty incredible. BUT.. coming from a 12 string guitar, this thing is just re-tuned and missing two strings…. which is a much shorter drive, on the luthier's table…
Hey Baron, I can't find a decent lesson on Boston Boy or Jenny Lynn. I figured you would be the one to have both of them but I've been through your whole page and can't find neither. If you could put out a lesson on both or either I would greatly appreciate it
I'm hoping you get invited to be one of the artists at Acousticamp one of these years. I'm attending the 2nd annual event this year and it's a great time.
Awesome. I'm about to buy my first mandolin, after some years on Irish whistle, flute & concertina. I was almost tempted to go straight for an OM. But I don't think I need to now. I am going to start on a mandolin and see how I go, I'm not worried about wasting effort before perhaps transitioning to OM. The explanation of mandola matches what I suspected - not really different enough. And I want to do more than play baselines for Irish music so no bouzouki for me. Once again and perhaps a little oddly, I'm excited again about getting my first mandolin. Thank you.
Comin' in from 2024 and I just want to say thank you for all the work you have put into Mandolessons and how much joy you bring to others with your education. Been watching you since 2014 and I'll keep on doin' so <3 from Nova Scotia
Love this channel...i started playing not long ago and you helped me so much....pliz check a piece i created named little cowboy on my channel...thanks
This is so cool... as a guitarist i have sat in sessions and heard these rhythms effortlessly being played. Lovely to have it spelled out. Masterclass indeed
