This is an interesting take on the racism debate. Like Duane said himself, as a native american in a white market you would not stand a chance, but as an "indian" from the us in Norway back in the 80's, you would be regarded as exotic, exciting, associated with western movies, and so on… Norwegians loved anything from USA back then. But it still boggles my mind, was it really that hard for a native American to have a breakthrough in US?
Ah, that is so typical! Indians are shown as white folks thought they had been. Medieval Christians where afraid of mentally ill persons. "Old" indians used to be very tolerant to someone being different in what ever way. Don Shanks as red kettle is doing a good job anyway. But why did they let him have steps and saddle on his horse? Neither any "old" indian would have needed that nor Don himself. He grew up on horseback.
I don't think this show will be released on DVD, because of all the clips they used from other productions. They most likely had to do some wrangling to get permission to use them. Hopefully they'll reair it at some time, though.
This is how I remember Don Shanks,as noble warrior. His character,Nakoma, made me study native American cultures which lead to learning about Leonard Peltier and meeting Russell Means. Thank-you Don and thank-you for posting this video.
Correct, they're not related. In addition to that, some people download the series off the net, then burn them on DVD and sell to unsuspecting buyers - expensively.
