Wow the firefighters in Australia are a lot more handsome than here in the states. Despite being happily married, I wouldn’t mind meeting that young man behind the wheel. Thanks heroes!
I was driving the 440 bus route that day, I had done my first trip to Bondi and everything was normal, just an ordinary sunny Saturday in Bondi, I completed my next trip back to Rozelle and then started my 3rd trip back to Bondi, I first knew something was going on when I was passing St Vincent’s when I had to stop for the Ambulance and police escort at 0:32 going into St Vincent’s shortly after that the two Motorcycle cops that were escorting the ambulance flew past me heading back in the direction of Bondi 1:12 then immediately after that the two special operations ambos 1:32 went past me, it was at that point I knew something very serious was happening, but I didn’t know for certainty what it was. 1:53 thats me arriving approaching Bondi driving the 440. 440’s lay up exclusively on Grafton St right across the road from Westfield, when I finally arrived there it was chaos, people were everywhere with stunned looks on their face other route services were using the 440 layup because they couldn’t get into the terminal, people were coming up to me asking where to get their bus from, unfortunately I didn’t know. As I left to complete my fourth trip I knew I was getting frightened people out of Bondi, I was also the last 440 because after I arrived radio instructed all other 440’s to terminate early and not enter Bondi. It’s a day I’ll never forget
Fire fighting vehicles (known as red fleet) that are attached to a brigade are exempt from having a numberplate, as long as the brigade name is clearly marked front and rear. The Subaru would have had a numberplate, but you probably noticed none of the other vehicles had a numberplate.
We actually use all three crewing systems (WT, RDS and Volunteer) in Australia. Particularly in this state we have Permanent (Wholetime) and Retained/RDS stations managed by Fire + Rescue, while our Volunteers are all part of the Rural Fire Service - which is the bushfire agency. The RFS also happens to be the largest VFB in the world!
Yeah, love getting the retained stations in New South Wales (my state in australia) - a lot of our country towns are extremely rural and far from things, so interesting to see them and share it
I went there as I live close by, and it was crazy smoke everywhere, and the rural fire service trucks were everywhere! There was also an RFS helicopter and NSWPF helicopter, which was really cool. Also, I don't know if you saw it, but Fleet 1B was on scene
