First met Eliot in Syracuse NY when was still in high school. Was totally blown away. Long fingers really help ;). Though I still wonder why he chooses to play so close to the bridge most of the time. Rarely see him play over the sound hole which I think would provide some warmth to his playing.
To my ear Fisk plays as though he wants to physically hurt the instrument. Usually he produces a horrible harsh tone and is generally more preoccupied in what he probably thinks is virtuosity rather than with artistry.
4:14 Gluing a clear plastic shield on the face of your guitar isn't exactly esthetically pleasing nor good for acoustics. Besides, what kind of violent action is he trying to protect his guitar from?
Fantastic interview, thank you for sharing! Eliot is a gift. After seeing him in concert, I’ve never known it was possible to feel such strong and beautiful presence from a human being. He’s carrying a torch we can’t ever let extinguish. I really loved his final remarks. Wise and insightful
Not completely my cup of tea. But as an artist spending a larger part of a lifetime on the art of interpreting music Elliot deserves more close listening that just on the surface with instant rejection. On long fluid lines, "nice" ecstatics and warm tone there may well be a 'shortcoming' in his playing, in the detail and precision he's there all the time. Nice isn't the eternal decisive factor in his performance. It took me some time to get used to appreciate the man's interpretations. But I've now even shifted towards defending him in public / on RU-vid;-) Artists aren't judged on there minor but on their best pieces. No matter how bad the previous, if the present contains the brilliant it will come across. I have spoken ( imho ), now you again,... Remember, it's only about a song or so,...
@@joaopedromarianooliveirasa645 I listened listened to the video. Fisk's version is 100% more exciting. sure, it would be nice if he was a little cleaner but, oh well. I would take an exciting and spirited performance over one that is clean and passionless.
Exelente entrevista, a un enorme musico que admiro mucho, gran cultura humanistica en general que es importante poseer, ademas habla un espanol perfecto y de una amabilidad extraordinaria. Muchas gracias por este regalo.
