It helps dig (a lot) and can be used as a sacrifice outlet for Rector. It's surprisingly good vs control because you can filter a lot of junk into action spells. I will attest to its funness. I *love* this deck.
8:16 very nice first game - a quick “nitpicking” comment here for viewers not completely familiar with the combo One of the beauty of this deck is the wonderful synergy between MoM & City of Brass: the player in auto-mode got the damage from city and went down to 17 but actually the damage is still on the stack and everything he is going to do from this point onwards is in response to that damage at instant speed. Therefore that damage will never be taken 😊 This also means that even if city was the only land in play he could have generated any and as many mana he wanted and still play in response 🤩
beatiful land choice for Rock, also rock player did not go without tough battle. Love the build. If you would have only 1 tusker and 3 call of the Heard. Whould should you add ? Maybe naturalizes to the main (depends on my local meta, which is pretty heavy enchantment orientated) ?
Hi! I'm the Rock player. Thanks for the kind words. My teammate and I both play essentially the same build. Both just took it to Lobstercon. So I can say I would highly recommend not going below 4 Call of the Herd. It has proved time and time again to be one of the best cards in Premodern. T1 Duress/Therapy, T2 Wall, T3 Call feels like cheating in alot of games. It plays well with Deed too. If you're set on running 1 Tusker, 3 Call then I'd suggest a Yavimaya Elder. Outside of Tusker & Wall there's no other card draw and 1 less Call means you're down a body. Elder can get lands and be a body. As well as be recurred. One of the drawbacks to Rock is having to rely on top decks. As there is little in the way of selection or draw. Deed, Therapy, and Duress all get enchantments. You just need to see them. So you might try a main deck Skeletal Scying or 2 and cut a Vendetta. Which is what should be cut for Naturalize if you're set on having it. It can kill a Nought or a Terravore but most of the time it shouldn't. I do like it in the right match up. It kills Ball Lightning beautifully. I hope this helps.
@dondariohabibi5118 yes! You can hang with the strongest decks and even come out ahead if you build properly. It has a lot of iterations and they're all full imo. The pieces of the deck can often be used in other ones as well!
Hi! I'm the Rock player. Spiritmonger is a fine creature, but it can be Swords'd, chump blocked, edicted. Deranged Hermit puts more power on the board across multiple creatures and it's alot harder to answer. That 5 mana is going alot farther. The squirrels are great sacrifices to Recurring Nightmare the Hermit because it quickly allows you to build an army. Hence, it's a much better finisher.
@@chrismorelli3327 Cool! about ur volrath stronghold, would you say its a ''need to have'' or nice to have, i would argue you use it on upkeep with echo trigger on the stack to get hermit on top of ur lib and play it again for more squirrels?
Audio levels need some balancing. The difference between the intro music and mic recordings is stark. Nice video otherwise, always happy to see PM commentary.
Ah yes! We had a 1K locally. This is Round 2. We're going to be posting them a bit out of order due to when people can commentate. I think Round 3 will be up next week!
Largely straightforward games. The only real interesting decisions were what to discard to Gerrad's Verdict, and whether to cast Sulfuric Vortex or to wait. That one I'm not sure on. Using the Lavamancer to try and tie up COP mana was a mistake(as mentioned), because of possible outs to Barbarian Ring. Thanks for the content!
Sideboarding was 100% a choice Carl messed up on. It's unclear that keeping Vortex over Ball was better? If you're getting hit by Angel you're losing anyway? We're glad you enjoy the content! The idea in the future is to do a better job explaining individual cards to make the videos a little more accessible.
If the replenish player floats the mana, after the port ability resolves you have a window to cast frantic Search before the mana pool empties! Something we'll try to do better at explaining in the future!
I appreciate the channel and premodern content. If I could make a request/suggest....More play by play would be very helpful to new players like myself. The tried and true formula of TV sports is one play by play guy and one commentary guy. I'm not saying you need clearly defined roles but more play by play would help me enjoy the matches more. I don't know all the cards and it's tough to follow sometimes. Otherwise great work and thanks for the videos.
That's a good idea. So something like "Ben plays Stifle which stops the Dreadnought's sacrifice ability allowing it to stay in play" and then go from there?
Loved the insight gents! This match really highlighted just how much better Islands and Plains (and Ben) are than Forests (and Carl) in general 😉 Some quick points from the side of dominance and victory: - As usual Carl is just wrong about the correct version of Adarkar Wastes to be jamming, Ice Age all the way. - Odyssey is the set Standstill was printed in, so I'm running my favorite Island and Plains from that set for the big time synergy bonus. - Appreciated Nick's coaching on this match up after he crushed me in the past. Particular advice from the Landstill side was to never counter the things that don't outright kill you (Survival/bombs), and trust your Factories to hold the ground against the 1/1 dorks to buy a ton of time.
