But what's the advantage of these compared to regular push ups? It seems the 1st 2nd parts of the exercise are just wasted.

@@Harry-TramAnh Because each rep is technically longer, it creates more time under tension, which is one aspect of muscle growth. Particularly in the triceps

@HartAthletics if you want time under tension, then slow your reps down or pause at the bottom of the rep. I don't see this being a superior exercise.

Slow down the decent on the weight, or raise the weight. Also, a 5min rest is better than a 20sec rest for muscle growth and strength building.
