Guppy Friend is a bag made out of microfibre though isn't it? yes no buying of synthetic clothers, most microplastic filters are made of microplastic which seems to be ridiculous
I believe you can do the exact same methods with 100% cotton and the results would be the same. How about put it on the bottom of an active compost pile. Just alternate crushed leaves and veggie food waste in a sunny spot that you keep moist.
Love the information in this video. How do you dispose of the microfiber fallout caught in the filters? I am not sure what the most environmentally safe way is.
If you have any resources, like letters, to contact manufacturers, I think that's a great idea and would love to do this. Please let me know if you have any recommended places to find some starter messaging! Thank you for sharing this information!
Would you recommend 100% organic cotton or 95% tencel and 5% spandex? (Can't find many 100% tencel products). One is biodegradable, but the other one is easier on the environment, form what i know
Hi Marcus, that is a great question. I would go with the 100% organic cotton as I think more and more biodegradability plays a key role if we want to reduce waste linked to fashion by sending clothes to the compost. But 100% organic cotton is the material of the fabric, it doesn't mean that the sewing thread or labels are also 100% organic cotton. If you can make sure that all of those are biodegradable, that would be the best. If you don't have a lot of spandex free clothing, you have to know that it reacts differently: more chances of shrinking after washing, might loose it's shape, will be less comfortable. But 95% tencel is also pretty good :)
Hi Anya, thanks for watching. I will give more info on viscose production in a future video. I don't know when I'll have the time to make it but it will be this year for sure. Is viscose better than synthetics, in my opinion yes but it all depens on how the viscose is produced. In the mean time you can get more info on viscose on this site: dirtyfashion.info
Thanks for doing this video- I am organizing monthly river and beach cleanup events and wanted to get tees for the volunteers to enjoy using. At first, I thought using recycled plastic tees would be best, but then I am concerned about creating a bigger problem each time it is then washed due to microplastics- is that right? So, I am looking into ordering hemp tees - if you have any good companies to suggest that print custom designs and ship to Japan, please let me know, thanks!
Hi JJ, yep that's microplastics are a big concern I did a video about it : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KE8-rhHlOi0.html As we are located in Canada, I don't know much about companies in Japan or that would ship to Japan. But it must exist for sure !
Merci.
Thanks for this video! Someone asked on my video about Fast Fashion what are the best alternative fibres and I found this video. It was super helpful and allowed me to answer the question so thank you for making this resource. Unfortunately, (I think it is a legal thing) most cannabis plants are grown indoors, which require energy-intensive heat lamps, areation systems and fans. So the process ends up using up a lot of energy. When grown outdoors though, marijuana plants are super sustainable to grow!
Thanks for watching, I am glad this was useful 😀 There is a distinction to make between indoor canabis plants and industrial hemp wich is grown outdoor and contains no THC. To harvest fibers, you need those 10 feet tall hemp plants.
